...but seriously.... There's only so much the Suicide Hotline--or anyone on the other end of a phone can do for you. You need to network. Start now. Get together with people facing the same issues, and schedule a meeting to exchange information and for moral support. Get your resume in order, and your references lined up, now. If you don't know anyone from businesses other than Qualcomm, now would be a chance to try to meet them. Join professional organizations. If you belong to a gym, church, etc. get to know others in the same industry. If all else fails, be a house-husband for a few months, and let your wife go to work. If she has a STEM degree, she may be in greater demand than you are--simply because she is female, and employers feel obligated to satisfy quotas.

Of course they haven't announced layoffs yet! They insure you. If anything happens, the policy pays for the cost and inconvenience of hiring your replacement. If you commit suicide due to impending layoffs, the policies are void.

When I got laid off I was feeling suicidal. Not the first day or the second day but about a month into it I was very depressed. All joking aside call the suicide hotline. Don't bother with anything that HR recommends. They're just saving their asses. The national suicide hotline is below

1 (800) 273-8255

they usually lock the balcony doors during the review cycle and layoffs.. the doors are not locked yet hence I dont think the layoffs have started.

I heard that they're installing nets around some of the buildings to help with jumpers. The nets will safely catch any jumpers and gracefully roll them back into the doors near the elevators so employees can safely return to work.
