Timing of 2015 Layoffs - A Question on State Department of Labor WARN Notices

Please correct me if I am off here, but I would like to question the rumor about the timing of our layoffs (many folks indicated Wed 7/22) - here is my rationale. If the company is planning to lay off hundreds or thousands of people, would not we be required to file a WARN notice with the State of California? Any layoff affecting 50 or more folks has to be filed 60 days in advance with the State. Here is an example for our February 2015 layoffs (about 300 folks) from San Diego, San Jose, Santa Clara - http://www.edd.ca.gov/jobs_and_training/warn/WARNReportfor7-1-2014to12-25-2014.pdf

They give you 60 days pay from the date of the notice, regardless of whether or not you continue working for the employer.

Warn gets updated on 10th and 25th of the month. Keep looking for 25th warn notice. If there are any layoffs it will be reported (but only for US location )

They will give you 2 months severance and that's it - it covers them 60 days.

This is where the two months of severance pay comes from

They can issue both layoff information with Q2 results & WARN filing at the same time and notify the actual employees effected only after a month. In many cases open positions can be eliminated.
