Licensing business alone will not survive long term, 3g standard has short lifespan left, 4g IP content is much lower, further down the road they will hardly have any IP in 5g

Breakup is the long term game plan. Licensing is a money printing business and it does not need a chip business execute licensing agreement. Chip business, on the other hand, rode the licensing coattail to win designs by bundling, licensing withholding, and price fixing. This increased the QC revenue quickly, but the side effect is that the increasing revenue only goes to drag down the profit margin. There is little QC can do to maximize shareholder value as long as it holds on to the chip business. Without the chip business, QC will be able to collect even more licensing fees. QCT is a dead weight and a sinker.

That's only a short term gain, without the chip business the licensing business dies.

I said this last week, and look at what is turning up ==> Chip business is dragging QC down. The only viable outcome is to spin off QCT from QTL. QC’s chip business is all mobile and low margin, unlike BRCM, TI, Intel, etc who have other high margin business. They could get out of mobile to focus on other products. QC has no choice but to stay mobile and continue to suffer price erosion. So, the only choice is to separate the chip business from licensing business.
