Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

More direct reports = more power?

I have always wondered why is it that some people in leadership positions just want to have more and more people in their reporting structure. Does that make them important? More secure of themselves? "Kingdom builders" is what I heard they are called. The rise and fall of Navneet Kapoor in Target India demonstrates that this "kingdoms" they build are always temporary and that gravity takes care of bringing down what needs to come down. The rise and fall of many, too many SGMs, VPs and other toxic people demonstrates that large minion structures are not good for organizatios. Hope Brian Cornell helps the remaining minion-lovers that their days at TGT are over.
