In Target India it is very difficult to get Software engineer promoted to senior software engineer. But director to senior director, DM to SDM, SDM to GM ,GM to SGM is very easy.
2 Promos .in TI as Senior Director (BI and .com) 1 as Director (legal) ....The person who messed up is getting promoted
What is amazing is you can have a group manager that by accounts from many different pyramids and team members is an utter ass whose only interest is self promotion and as long as management above him is flaccid and eats up his rhetoric, will only climb further. How does this happen? You can't fix stupid.
Clearly has its exceptions, chiefly the protected, brown-nosing, political ladder climbers whose only purpose appears to be finding ways to insulate themselves from Bad Situations and then opportunistically insert themselves into calculated "hey look at me!" scenarios that perfectly set themselves up for a promotion to director without ANY ACTUAL MERIT OR SUBSTANCE. It's happened several times the last few weeks, and it makes me want to vomit. This is how it works around here. My only hope is that one day these people get what is coming to them.
I will also start dressing up like the director who got promoted recently. Nice "visibility" 😊

I've been amazed at the number of promotions that have been announced recently... is TGT trying to thin layers or not? Was the pressure of having too many direct reports so great that mgmt decided they had to fill the void left by the RIFs?
Do you think director's job is easy? First they need to hire hundreds of folks (thousands in BI), run programs for years without any delivery, then fire people when they can't justify team size, show they are saving millions for company. Phew .. Don't they deserve promotion? You are jealous that's all.
