I currently work in a department that has merged with another one. The other department on average earns a much larger amount that the one I work in. Will the gap in wages be adjusted at all for situations like this?

It's possible they could reduce the pay of your new co-workers to eliminate the disparity.
Or maybe they'll assume you're all happy to have a job.

Unfortunately for you, I would expect downward pressure on the other team, not the other way around. Tougher reviews, not replacing departures, and they'll be targets in the next layoff.
