@985: Agreed. The Student Loan money was never meant to be an income generator for the government but they turned it into one and is as much to blame as the private loans and the tuition jacking of ALL schools. For and non-profit, public and private.

It couldn't have happened if the department of education didn't foster a conflict of interest and directly inflate the funding and lack of risk for schools. The ONLY thing that is going to fix this problem is bringing back bankruptcy protections for students and making it so schools have just as much skin in the game as students. The current environment gives them millions of dollars in easy federal loans with no risk whatsoever.
