Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

Not fair.

I didn't think this was gonna end soon. I am a student, completed my first year, and I find it hard for me to go and search for another place to go to school. I was starting to get use to things and now I'm forced to go else where. I don't care about everyone else that are haters, but there are some students here at Heald that's didn't want this to happen. I wish we can finish our degrees and graduate from Heald.

get in, get out, get ahead, is all bull sht. i was a student at heald college. I was there for 3 yrs, to only get a AAS degree. But what I really got was 50k debit, and cant put that whatever degree to use. They max out my student loans, and told me to stay at heald for another 6 months to get a AA degree.

I was told that I was gonna get a better degree if I sign up with heald, by their employee. I told her i would think about it. she called me every other day to get me to come in and speak with her. When i agree to talk to her to get more information. I was corner by her and another employee. They both tag team on me to sign up. My question is will the students get their loans forgiven?

Thank you Heald for putting me in debit. I really see my future.

I've got to echo what 788 said about non-profit vs. for-profit. Heald was very well respected when it was a non-profit. When you look at schools, determine whether they are for profit or non-profit. Any of the state schools such as CSU or San Jose State will be non-profit. Brandman and National are also non-profit. Argosy and Devry are for-profit, so I'd steer clear of them. Check this chart just for a pro & con: https://www.brandman.edu/nonprofit-vs-for-profit

744 That comment originated from the press article. If you've been following the medias and links being posted here then you would know. We salute you for trying to better yourself by education but not for-profit schools such as Heald. Heald used to be respected when they were non-profit. Now it's completely flushed away and no longer circling around the toilet bowl within 5 years period. It's obvious that the students were kept in the dark to not incite panic until last week. I think you and the other students are still fortunate that your future are still bright, unlike some of the former graduates that have their lives turned upside down by the shenanigans.

Good on you 744. The signs were there, but no one knew exactly when and how it would happen. I think many people were pretty sure on Friday that the end was near. For your textbooks, you might try half.com or Barnes & Noble (https://www.barnesandnoble.com/textbookbuyback/). For information about transfer, check one of these documents, which are available on the CCi website (http://www.cci.edu/multimedia/closure/CA-North-Packet.pdf) or (http://www.cci.edu/multimedia/closure/CA-South-Packet.pdf). Start with the schools under the Articulation Agreement section because you're likely to be able to transfer more credits at those schools.

First of all, I don't understand why I would be classified as the bottom of barel students when I'm just trying to graduate and complete a program. Yea ok, I didn't want to believe the Internet hype and it's not like any of the teachers were telling us anything. If they knew something, then they should have told us not to buy books last week or something... but just like some of the students, i think teachers were not exactly sure regardless of how bad the signs were.

And I take offense to those " bottom of barel student "comments .. that's why im going to school, and trying to make something of myself.

664 I know a former Heald student that has his life turned upside down because of the shenanigans. He put his Heald degree to use by placing it at the bottom of a bird cage. Whaaaaaa, not fair!

Anonymous95692 - Exactly why the last 2 republican congresses couldn't even agree on the time of day. Lets roll our eyes or cash checks from the tobacco lobby instead of actually voting on something useful to the middle class. In the last 6 years they shot down unemployment, meaningful healthcare reform, meaningful education reform and everything else in the name of the 1% and greed. As usual most of you bottom of the barrel students weren't paying attention and still aren't.

Students are getting their loans forgiven. Heald was told to help students get into new programs. Unfortunately, that "help" is simply giving them a piece of paper with a list of schools and phone numbers. Students should start with the section called Articulation Agreements. Those schools already have lists of courses that they have agreed to give credit for. They will complete their programs in less time at those schools.

Regardless of what we or any employee thinks, students who wish to complete their program deserve the opportunity to do so. F*** our paychecks. They deserve to finish what they started (if that is what they want). I'm sorry OP.

This is not about Democratic or GOP. It's about a company that took advantage of people in lower economic status who have little knowledge of the education system. The sudden closure is just another reflection of the kind of company it was.

Anonymous95680- How would you not know the school you are attending has been on the brink of shutdown for over a year? If this came as real news they really must be bottom of the barrel students - future members of the GOP party in action with a complete lack of knowledge or curiousity about the world around them.

I, for one, am very sorry you will not be able to complete your program. As a member of the faculty I am truly sorry that my students will not be able to complete their program also.

If you have been there a year, you really needed to do a simple Google search. If all the signs say something is going to blow up, don't be surprised if it blows up.
