FURLOUGH QUESTIONS...

CAN SCHLUMBERGER MAKE A LONG TERM EMPLOYEE TAKE A 5 DAY FURLOUGH? OR IS IT ONLY ON A VOLUNTEER BASIS?

SLB is a corporation, they can pretty much do as they please with very little consequence. People are quitting during this downturn. There are other job opportunities outside of the oilfield, and many people are not sitting idle and waiting for the hammer to drop.

Ask your HR rep. if there is any possibility to get a voluntary furlough, or ask for a leave of absence.

Are they only offering these to foreign employees? I'm a U.S. citizen working in Texas and I would like a furlough. I don't really get much vacation as it is. Where do I sign up?

No, but the can remember that you didn't play the game. Just spread it out over 12 weeks or so. Be grateful, it could be a whole lot worse next quaarter. Eventually, folks will start quiting as they cut you down to 4 days ect.
