Our new manager laid me off over the phone, didn't have the guts to do it in person. He doesn't even understand what our department does and has no experience in DOT Compliance.

Called my manager on a Sunday, explained I had a water leak that ruined the floor in my office at home. Asked if could take off on Monday and Tuesday to take care of replacing the floor. He said he had just received a call requesting me to attend a meeting on Monday morning and I could take off after the meeting. Attended the meeting and found out I was no longer employed. Manager was not at the meeting, but I did send him an e-mail thanking him for the time I worked under him and stating I had no ill will and wished him the best.
I came to work 1 hour later gone marched out in front of everyone very embarrassing phone layoff would have been the better option.
My wife once threw a mobile phone at me. We didn't have sex for the next few week. Guess that is a form of being layed off in my books anyway.

Yes I was laid off over the phone - I was on a leave done by hr manager ... They will do it.
Most manager's don't have a clue as to what other departments do. They go by what others tell them. That's why so many dumbbells still work at Weatherford. A lot of employees are non compliant...but who cares as long as they get the product out.. doesn't matter if they pull shit outta trash or its expired.. get er done is all that matters.. as long as it ain't killed anyone yet..we good...that ol mighty dollar in control.
What? Nooo way!!! Weatherford would not do that, they are much better at humiliation.. which means they will walk you out like a criminal in front of your co workers ...not let you go over the phone, that's too easy.

No and not a problem as I can see, and of course would cut down on all that paperwork.
