James C - most of what you say makes sense if the organization is running well. However, when the management keeps switching and they continue to move personnel out of their areas of expertise or change their job titles to something that was not their strength, then it gets problematic. Add to that the lack of direction on the whole COE transformation and what we are suppose to be working on, it begins to become a challenge to prove your worth. My current boss is running scared like the rest of us and it trying to keep their role in place let alone trying to keep our roles in place for the future.
With loyalty to our employer, Target, comes the duty to do our best for the corporation because they sign our paychecks and they pay health insurance for your family. Target wants loyal employees who know that their success should come by improving Targets business model and practices. Whatever job you have, you should do it as well as reasonably can be done. Thousands want your job, I can guarantee that! You leave, hundreds will apply for your post. This is fact in 2015 America.
That said, does Target owe you something, other than pay and benefits for services rendered? That is where the debate heats up. What do they OWE us? I expect fair treatment and fair evaluations of my job performance. I should NOT have to brown nose an inside click. My work should stand on it's own. Management can, by greed and stupidity, ruin morale, and this willingness to do our best.
Target has not handled layoffs in a manner that builds trust and morale. A worker should be able to say to themselves and their Target Boss, "If I was gone tomorrow, and not replaced at once by an equally capable worker, your operation will suffer, and these particular important tasks will not be done, and you will suffer for my absence."
If you can't say that to your manager, just what I quoted above. Then your job should be in trouble!
