Should I start looking for a job now? I really don't want to give up this comfortable position I have here at the Q (standard 8hr work day...i don't have to do email at night or work weekends) Seems that once the ax falls on us, we'll have even more competition from the BRCM folks who are eyeing the same open positions elsewhere, so best to be prepared?

Avago will review all of Broadcoms BUs to determine the profitability. Units that don't meet the target ROI will be looked at carefully to determine if they have a viable path to meet the model in the very near term. If it is determined they can't, they will be sold. If buyers can't be found, they will be closed. All remaining BUs will have less people in general. The exact cuts will be determined by what is absolutely needed to do the job. All science project work will be shut down. All pegs will 100% focus on doing only the work needed to generate money. For the people that stay, it will mean more focus on doing the right work but the money returned to employees will be much greater than just about any semiconductor company.
Well. This depends. The two companies dont really seem to overlap on the mobile platform in what they sell. Avago sells rf components. Broadcom is strong in connectivity. Ironically, both probably can probably sell a better bundle to tier 1 phone OEMS...at the time when Samsung is going on their own with the app processor and LTE modem. So if they are successful, hopefully this actually creates geeks jobs in SD and Bay Area and creates competition among employers. So I hope they are successful.
