Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

RTO

Can someone explain who is entitled to RTO. Work in non-exempt dept where we were unaware of this. Any unplanned time is counted as absent and mgmt dings you.

Thanks for any insight.

RTO is not covered during orientation at HQ because not all NE's are eligible

Also of note is that if you do have RTO, you get 80 hours per calendar year! Yes, 2 weeks of sick time! It used to be 40 hours in Distribution until we merged into the Merchandising as a pyramid...Merch had 80 hours RTO so to be consistent Distribution went up to 80 hours too. We had to take that extra week into account planning staffing and headcount. Especially at the end of the year because now people had 2 weeks of free time off to use before 12/31 and "call in sick" during the holidays!

I used to work in TSS as a NE and my manager hassled me once about taking RTO, so I tracked down a copy of the guidelines. The guidelines DO exist in a written form somewhere, but as I recall, I had to ask HR for it.

I agree with 103894 - go directly to the HROC or HQHR, and record the info (who you spoke with, exactly what they said, etc.). RTO is very difficult to pin down, likely because the company fears (or knows from experience) that there's a segment of team members who will push it to the limit just because they can. It also fluctuates over time up in Brooklyn Park they had RTO, in Minneapolis they did not. Same people, same phones, same job . . . . . . simply working at a different address and, RTO was eliminated. I looked into it when I was Non-Exempt several years ago, and was NEVER shown any RTO info in writing.

@103994 I have never seen or been aware of what the policy is for RTO. Was looking for clarification on what RTO is, have just heard rumors. Thanks for the information, I am not able to make up time if I go home sick, and it does get mentioned in reviews but has never been an problem. Thanks for the information on how it works.

In the Distribution Centers, Stores and Call Centers it apparently is different. In my opinion, it's very sad they don't get paid for sickness, well-being, etc, Even those who are compensated for RTO don't get paid for planned medical visits. The thing is, many competitors will compensate...evaluate your options! That is why they compensate for HQ Non-Ex, because, other companies will pay them for doctor visits and taking care of their health.

@103927: What do you mean when you say "get in trouble" or "ramifications" for leaving work sick? Policy is policy, regardless if it's RTO or the sick policy 103897 laid out.

If you qualify for RTO as an NE, it does not count against you. You call in sick or go home early, you are paid as well as unplanned medical visits, caring for a sick dependent and other urgent issues. It is completely up to your manager to approve or deny RTO within the guidelines. The guidelines stated that the NE TM should try to make up the time that work week but obviously, if you miss a whole day or two, that doesn't happen. I am sorry, but if you are NE and don't qualify, it sounds like 103894 spells it out.

But leave early sick counts against your attendance and RTO does not? Please explain, so of I come in and leave sick as a non exempt I get in trouble but if I am eligible for RTO there are no ramifications?

Certain non-exempt positions at Target (such as those in call centers) are exempt from RTO benefits. Instead, they follow a sick policy that only pays out if you come to work and need to leave because you or a dependent is ill. So if you start work at 8am but need to leave at 10, you'd get paid for 4 hours that day. If you needed to leave at 12, you'd get paid for 8.

Reasonable Time Off... Payroll or HROC will be able to answer RTO eligibility questions.
