Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

I've been told early June, too....

My director, who was spot-on through our last round of lay-off's, has advised me pretty much what is being reported here. He said first week of June and that it will be about as painful as last time.

What a leader Brian is. Cut, cut, cut. He has done NOTHING that I can see to invigorate, energize or otherwise show positive vision and momentum for the future. All he is doing doing is slashing costs. A business cannot grow/succeed by just slashing costs. Target leadership is scary.

All VPs had half day meeting today. Tomorrow am they have 1 hour mtgs with all directors. . A few hours later a meeting with their direct reports. If nothing's going on I'd' be surprised. All day meetings for VPs next Tuesday and thursday, and yes, conf rooms booked Next Thursday. No need for the trickle-down meetings if it doesn't impact all.

mulligan - There is definitely something related to wood going on, but its more reminiscent of pulled pork.

Sorry, I don't think BC did the right thing for the long term but time will tell. I got cut and I am not sour, I have moved on to a new role that I am very happy at. I wish Target the best but I don't think a slash and burn strategy is going to take Target where it needs to be in the future. It will look good to Wall Street for the next few years but aside from eliminating thousands of jobs and other costs (like TCI ) where will the real growth come from? Also, the coffee and GTKY's are not a bad thing. They build relationships and foster conversations that are more open than inside the cube farm. Perhaps there were too many for some but it didn't mean work wasn't getting done. I think the people that slag on that the most did not work at Headquarters, they are folks in the field or stores who just think it's a waste of time. You wouldn't know until you are part of it. Some of the best ideas and discussions can happen outside of the office.

Agreed, 103241. I was cut with Canada am I'm ready to go back and WORK!! All the other baloney needs to be pushed aside in favor of serving the stores - where the payroll money actually comes from.

I may be next but when half of HQ spent most of their time on GTKY's and coffee statuses, BC did the right thing.
