If you are going to hold a leadership role there is something to be said for having a 4 year degree or better. There are many classes that are part of a degree program that prepare individuals for leadership. No, a degree wont make you a leader, but yes it can make you a better leader. Many degree programs force the learner to think critically and they provide a great base to future learning. I used to think like many in this thread that a degree is just a piece of paper and it should not be a requirement. However, after finishing my degree and working on my Masters I would have to disagree.

Too much common sense (street smart) missing in leads position.

Like a lot of hr stuff guidelines it can be ignored if a candidate has skills, experience, whatever.

Sadly not everyone knows when it can be ignored and they get stuck thinking it's the law.

Even exempt roles up to 15 or 17 don't technically require a degree as long as the hiring manager signs off on it. Our team has several exempts with no degree or working on degree.

An academic degree means nothing without people's experience skills. What you call a fool that goes to college for four years? An educated fool.

I started NE and I happen to have a degree. But in my old NE position I worked with many people without a degree and this was years ago and in HQ

I don't know what this applies to. This has been the norm in DC's for at least 10 years. Are there non-exempts at HQ that require a degree?

Non-Exempt means hourly TM's. Probably won't have any effect on ETL's and up (exempt). I agree that the 4-year degree requirement is a crappy model, especially in a retail environment.

I never understood why target assumes a 4 year degree automatically makes someone a leader. I doubt this is real, but if it were this would be the best change in over a decade.
