Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Who decided?

I was told a consulting firm decided on who was to be terminated? 20years of service, always scored over 80 on annual reviews, it would be nice if Target would commnicate the MATH used to calculate who was let go. At least let us understand after all the blood , sweat and loyalty i provided.

Lay-offs can feel like divorces, you lose your spouse, your house, your children, your self esteem(for awhile anyways) and your income, I was laid off twice in my life, sucked both times equally, and no, time didn't help one iota, second time being laid off sucked dog poops just like the first time, same with my two divorces. Blah!

Not sure what other impacted TMs did, but it was my job to take the specifications from the customers and then bring them to the software engineers. I don't want to jump to any conclusions here, but I'm pretty sure they arent going to be able to manage without me.

I feel for you man. I was in the same boat. 18 years, nights, weekends, holidays, busted my but for the company, I believed in what we do. I was always more than 80. I just do not get it.

Honestly, and I mean little disrespect: Why even care? When you lay off that many, its an abstraction barely superior to any force of nature or any other stochastic process.

Perhaps the only takeaway here is that you didn't quite distinguish yourself enough to avoid the axe at all possible costs; which is nothing at all to be ashamed of since it happened to so many. Or, that with all of the performance-based pay raises you received, you got expensive.

So there it is. There are no guarantees in life. Looking for "what did I do wrong?" is a masochistic exercise. Here's what you did wrong: You lasted 20 years and got raise after raise after raise and not keeping you around would possibly preserve opportunities for two other trainees. That's the kindest cruel reason I can think of.

So what exactly would you say you do here?

Judging by my team they chose either long time/high pay employees or short term lower pay grade employees. The latter were sacrificed to avoid lawsuits from the former. Either way it was heartless and brutal. I still have my job: 15 years in, good reviews but not a suck up so I've not gotten above pay grade 13. Who knew being an under achiever would pay off?

It still doesn't change the outcome but will expose Target for any lawsuit. Also, if performance and potential were primary reasons, people who were affected will be looked at negatively when they seek new employment. Nothing good can come from knowing more except it satisfied your curiosity.
