Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

I know a man who had a long career at a University

Now he is doing some work locally involving an aspect of healthcare.

He called our local Heald campus, and then decided after talking with Heald, they did not offer him what he needed.

Heald continued to call him for six months, and no matter how many times he told them he wasn't interested, Heald persisted.

As a local community member, his experience makes for great stories amongst others.

And leaves many with a sad impression of Heald - currently - not what it was 100 years ago,

but now. And now is not good.

I keep the proverbial "ears in the ground," and it seems that everything I hear about Heald is positive. There are the obvious stories of graduates moving into leadership positions in their respective fields. However, more impressive are the tales of worldwide influence. This might be a graduate working on nuclear negotiations in Iran, a student in one of our graduate programs starting a club at one of our study abroad campuses, or even a graduate considering a run for oval offices. That is what keeps me going at my campus each day. Sure, there are some legal issues (driven more by politicians and lawyers than the 150 year old institution), but find me a lawyer who wouldn't give up his or her time at the bar to join us in what we do. By being more inclusive, the Headiness grows. I like the sound of that.

I see brochures in in the weekly flyers soon. They could easily rival gyms for money.

The schools taken over by CCI are a shell of what they once were.

@492. Yea, I'm just making up that story about the Kaiser interns. Everybody keeps raving about what a bunch of goddam geniuses we have at Heald. And if you think trotting out an example about four students being placed in three and a half months is supposed to make anybody feel better you're shitting yourself. If you don't think Heald is a mess right now, I'd love to hear your definition of a true mess. What do you suppose caused this disaster? Bad luck?

278, we just had HR Manager from Kaiser speak with our Pharmacy Tech Club today in the Lounge. She said she was very impressed with the externs she's had and has hired 4 just this year(2015). In every school, there are dumb people that go through programs. So your analogy may be true but every student is different. If you believe "you're" responsible for the "mess" then get the f*** out of whatever department you work for so you can stop being so cynical and depressed.

I don't have any stories like that, but I have two that are important. One of my best students, after her internship said that she wished she had gone to community college and gotten a certificate instead of an AAS. She also gained an internship at Kaiser, but said others who had internships at the same time went for nine months, learned the same things, and paid less. I'm not making this up! The other story is from a student who ended up working for a recruiting service. She said she couldn't place Heald students not because they lacked the hard skills, but they lacked the soft skills: basic things like showing up on time, not using the phone to talk with friends, and so on. These are just two anecdotes, and I'm sure that others have more positive stories, but it did get me thinking.

Yea? How about this story: I was recently talking with somebody who works at a Kaiser pharmacy, and he regularly works with interns. When he found out where I worked what do you suppose his first comment was about Heald students? The first thing he said was about how dumb Heald students are. It's just embarrassing to see the mess we're responsible for here and how people outside the school see us now.
