If you are H-1B and are let go by SLB, you are basically screwed and sent back to your country of origin. You have about 2-3 weeks, then you need to be gone or else US Customs will be on your ass. SLB hires lots of top-notch foreigners who study at US universities(mostly Masters and PHDs), but SLB won't hesitate to fire them and ruin their hopes of working in America at a moment's notice. Companies that have more respect for their international employees have a system were foreign students are allowed to work on their student visa for up to a year, but SLB doesn't do this option because it is "not tax efficient"; the return to the shareholders would be reduced. If you are looking for a job in the US as a fresh-out international candidate, do not come to SLB. They will crush your dreams.
Relax guys.. very real example here. H1B employee was laid off a month back.
Wrong and wrong. H1bs are paid at par and yes they loose their jobs. It mandates leaving the country immediately unless you find other sponsor and screws up kids school, house and family. Terrible consequences without any unemployment benefits.
So, do h1b employees ever get laid off or is it just the US people? I heard the h1b's are much cheaper!
This is.not necessarily new hire. H1b workers.who have been there for years have to.renew their visa every 3 years and its a requirement from.DOL that it is posted publicly prior. Iam on a h1b myself for 10 yrs in this country and they still.do.mine.every three years likewise
