It was interesting, I went to a family get-together today with a bunch of family and relatives. So many loved Target in the past and would always had good things to say about my company. As people who care about me, they said they are DONE with Target. They heard my story and read the news. They were disgusted with the way this happened. It will be interesting to see what happens to sales and growth in Minnesota. I guess time will tell.

My family and relatives are doing the same. All Target does is lay off workers every 5-6 years. Always an excuse. Were done too.
Just like Target can let you go anytime. You can shop anywhere you want. It's your money! There is no lifetime contract regardless if you are a customer of Amazon, Costco, etc.
@82409, just so I understand, you're saying that people need to continue to shop at Target against their will so you will have a job. Sorry not how capitalism works. Sounds like you're now fully plugged in to Target's new "lead by fear strategy." Do you really want to live this way? Even though you called me an "Asshat", I forgive you because I know you are truly scared. I was laid off on Tuesday, FYI.
@82049 Let me know when you get laid off or fired. Then maybe I will go back. You certainly aren't Target Brand and DON'T belong there. You are arrogant, foul mouthed, and driving people away. I have no desire to be a "guest" of the "new Target" if you are the example of the current attitude to people that are still in shock over losing their job. Why would I care about a jerks job?
Jesus tap dancing Christ, it's business. Stop with this unique snowflake victim bullshit.
Want to really hurt Minnesota? Watch if this actually stops people from shopping, watch the remaining 90% of tgt HQ become unemployed. You are a great neighbor. Asshat.
It's their right not to shop at Target for any reason whatsoever, regardless of the impact to Target's bottom line. It is how they are showing their love and support, which is awesome no matter if you're still there or not.
Nothing will happen. Your family and friends say they'll be done with Target? Maybe short term, but they will return.
I understand your frustration and nice to see your friends boycott Target. The reality is sales will remain and probably increase. Layoff happens in all corporations. Americans at the end of the day shop for the best deals possible and will not pay more to protest a company. It does not matter if our Nike shoes are made by little kids in 3rd world country or buy product made by China that takes jobs way from Americans. The layoffs from Target was horrible but needed to be done. As a corporation Target needs to turn the ship around to stay open. It's business which can be ugly and yes employees at large corporations you are just a number. If you don't want to be considered a number work for a smaller company. We like large corporations like Target because you have stability (for the most part) and other benefits. Good luck and I am sure you will find a new job.
Oops 15% of my prelayoff visits is what I meant to say...,
I did forget 1 thing.... Every single person I worked with in 2009 is laid off now. That was 50 people.....a couple survived the early 2015 layoffs but now they are gone as well.
I lost my job in 2009 and I boycotted for awhile. I do occasionally shop there but it is maybe 15% of my post layoff visits. I grocery shop at Aldi's now. Between. Aldi's better prices and Walmarts better price matching at the register, I just don't find that Targets prices hold up as well. The kids want Justice clothes and I wait for Kohl's mega deals paired with their coupons and kohl's cash. As for home goods...we'll have upgraded in awhile. Toys - the Black Friday sales at Target aren't as good as Walmart and other stores. So, while I am only one shopper ... I have chosen to spend my money elsewhere.
OP, I am with you. I will not shop at Target anymore. I am not from MN and I will move for my next job.
I won't stop shopping at a company due to layoffs, but I sure will stop due to arrogant, rude jerks who don't deserve my business. If that is the caliber of people left, there are plenty of other just as deserving places to shop in town.
More people should buy or support imports. Foreign companies don't layoff Minnesotans.
I can understand this person's pains and frustrations over the mass lay-offs by lashing out, it's an understandable human reactions, so I understand. I've shopped at a Target store today for some protein drinks, two racquetball racquets, and a six-packs of ensured. Best wishes to all.
Will you and your family stop shopping at Macy's, Walmart, Sears, JCPenney, Kohl's and pretty much all retailers as well? What about not drive Ford, Chevy, Chrysler, etc...And don't eat anything from General Mills, Cargill, Land O'Lakes, etc...Don't use 3M products, Medtronic pace makers, fly Delta or any airline, bank at Wells, USBank, TCF, etc..That's right, all companies have had layoffs. If you don't avoid these companies, you are just a hypocrite!
Hooray! Let's cheer for a MN company to go bankrupt. The 11,000+ Target employees don't have any impact on the economy at all.
I am not a past or current employee. Just someone that understands why this happened. Yes it sucks. But to penalize the company further makes no sense. Do you and your family want more employees out of a job? Sure seems like it. And then you and your family are then doing exactly what the executives did. So go ahead, help contribute to more layoffs.
@81860 Wow, if you're what's left at Target, I'm sure glad I'm no longer there. What a jerk. In honor of you're awful attitude I won't shop there anymore either. Consider yourself personally someone who has just driven a customer away.
Rolling my eyes at this story, blah blah blah. Move on then. So your family is going to shop someplace because they let people go? Pretty weak argument. Every workplace at one point or another has lay offs. Deal with it you big fat pussy!
