Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

TGT has called in some of my co-workers to come back in a work for 5+ days this week and next.

So, there goes that "15 Weeks of Severance" that was promised to the media. Is it really severance if you're called back into work like an idiot? No. Just, no. According to the first paragraph of the separation agreement, Target has the right to reach out for any assistance as needed up until May 16th. Is it really "15 Weeks of Severance" if you can't fully commit to another job for 9 weeks of that? Give me a break. Yes, I am happy to get any severance at all, but it just doesn't seem fair that TGT is getting credit for giving this amazing package that is balanced on a pile of half-truths. Also, no. TGT you have proved that you can't seamlessly layoff 550 + 1700 people in the last 5 weeks and get along swimmingly. It was a nice try, but now I'm bitter.

OP, before griping you should read more than just the first paragraph of the agreement. Those laid off are still on payroll through May 16. Severance starts after that. As one that was let go I certainly have sympathy for everyone involved, even more so for those still left at Target, but all of this complaining and whining about things that just aren't accurate is getting old.

Former DTO Tech makes a great point - no one has to answer the phone if they get called.

What area are people getting called back to? Sounds like my old team was broken up, some have already moved desks - and pretty much no one is doing anything.

Shit. I didn't believe it. But you're right: "Your last day of active employment is today. You will remain on the Target Payroll until May 16, 2015. Although Target does not expect to need your services between now and May 16, you must be available to provided assistance, as needed, during this period." Yuck.

How in the world do you get called back to a position that was supposedly eliminated?

I suppose until you cash the check you can't really change the number. You also prob need to have a positive attitude when you go back so you don't get a negative review. That being said...if I had a job interview I would make it clear I need to be at the job interview. Respectful but firm.

Just don't answer the phone call. My agreement said nothing about being next to the phone.
