Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

The anonymous letter from a "current mid-level employee" at Target HQ sent to Gawker a year ago is worth reading again right about now.

"Target purposely staffs assuming that everyone is working at 50% productivity. In essence they have 2 people doing a job that 1 person could do at another company, because the rest of the time you're in status meetings or volunteer events or FFF events" ... This is the culture throughout the entire organization. Though the brass tried to discredit and suppress letter, it appears they were right all along.

My husband was in distribution for Target and when he left to work for Amazon he realize just how little he worked at Target. His week was spent team building, in pointless meetings and he was on four boards in the community. He was at work just as much as now but they didn't have to work much they socialized more and would have drinks with his boss. At the new company they don't worry about team building they are more concerned with getting the job done and then going home to live their life. I have my husband back finally he was a Target drone and now is the guy I married. He doesn't put Target first like him and everyone at his DC did. He was a SGL and made far less than he does at the new company in a lesser role. The move was hard on him he missed his BFF's at work and the fun they had but he realizes how soft working at Target made him. After a year he is enjoying his new job and realizing life after Target is much better he actually has a life. Our entire social circle was Target so when he moved to the new company he lost every friend he had. Some did call after they were laid off last week realizing like he did that they were far more invested in Target than Target was in them and my husband was smart to make the switch when he did. Some do have interviews with Amazon but their compensation will not be like my husbands. He had more negotiation power since he was already employed. It is harder for people to negotiate when they have a family, mortgage and no job.

This funny to hear. As a former team member I can tell you it's the opposite at the store level. They expect the average team member to do the work of at least 2 people.

If you didn't go along with the silly activities, you had "low energy' and were not a "team player." Let's call it what it really is: bullying employees who are not yes people and want to work.

I totally agreed with that letter. Everyone who I worked with in 2009 is now gone. I was laid off in 2009 and I said the same thing then. If you didn't do the fff events the gtky and volunteers events etc you could actually get stuff done. But if you did stuff or couldn't stay late to do "activities" bc you have a family you weren't "fun". it slways seemed odd to me and unsustainable.
