Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

TSD

Before the weekend gets underway, I want to acknowledge that this was a very difficult week. It's hard to see talented colleagues and friends leave Target, and I have been proud to see the outpouring of support you’ve shown to each other.

But as we look ahead, I also know there’s a feeling of optimism for what the next chapter holds. Many of you are energized about a new way of working and are anxious to start shaping the future of this great company.

I’m looking forward to getting together in Target Hall on Monday. It’s important to me that we take some time to acknowledge the enormity of the transformation under way and remind ourselves why we’re on this journey. I am also excited to talk to you about what lies ahead.

Thank you for all that you do on behalf of Target.

I feel so sorry for Target employees. I can't even begin to say how disgusting it is that Corporate Communications posted this message on a forum for people to discuss issues outside of the corporate channel. What is even more difficult to fathom is that someone in the organization (probably all the way to the top) felt that posting this insulting piece of corporate rhetoric and propaganda was not only appropriate, but a great idea as well! Again, I feel so sorry for all of you. There is clearly a lack of judgement and integrity from your "Leaders"

OMG. Just give it a rest. The bodies aren't even cold.

Is there a school that these people go to where they learn to speak this buzzword filled perversion of the English language.

In the old days Bob may have bee blunt, but he at least didn't talk like some cult leader.

I have a son that works for Target and fortuantley still has a job. Until Target addresses future cuts or job security with a clear plan on what lies ahead, the talent drain will continue. Too many good jobs with good solid companies. They will be circling Target like buzzards circling a gut wagon, lots of good pickings. That being said, you cant blame the new CEO for the mismanagement of preveious admin. and trying to clean up the mess, But I heard Mr Cornwell was conveniently out of town this week, and senior mgt hunkered in thier office and made no attempt to say goodby to those departed. I think that says alot. Good luck to those departed, I've been through this myself, lots of sleepless nights and a lot of uncertainty, looking back they did me a favor.

Target Mpls (Deep Throat) says that TSD probably took LSD before that post. Obviously there is nothing good happening at 1000 Nicollet Mall anytime soon.

Barf, gag. What a pile of stinky stuff. Does he really think the wounds he just inflicted are going to be bandaged so easily by this gooey little missive? The tone of the whole thing is offensive and patronizing.

You have no right to be "proud" as if you are a papa who raised people right. Remember you are the decision makers who are destroying those special bonds. And WHERE are those energized optimistic people you are referring too?

I haven't worked at Target for a long time, so I am not personally impacted by the recent occurrences. But, I have many friends who I stay connected with, who are still at Target. NOT ONE of them has indicated a sense of optimism. There are many, and every single one of them are researching outside activities except the few who have decided to wait it out to retire. Among these are people who have always been high performers and beloved enthusiastic leaders.

I fear with the approach you just used, you've done far more damage than Steinhafel managed. Yes, Target was bloated and bureaucratic, and yes that needed to change, but I truly feel your slash and burn approach was penny-wise, pound-foolish. I guess we'll see.

But thanks for pushing the stock price up. I was able to exercise some lucrative options though I would have rather stayed in for the long hall. This approach gives me NO confidence there is going to be a long hall though, so I'm moving my money elsewhere.

He doesn't understand nor respect Minnesota culture. Not really sure why he felt the need to even bother to come here.

BAHAHAHAHAHAH how exactly, EVP of HR and CEO (don't want to name names), are you going to create excitement and hope while threating TWO MORE YEARS of "potential" layoffs and outsourcing! You're not fooling anyone - but rest assured employees will be in that Great Hall, clapping and cheering, telling you exactly what you want to hear, acting excited, because they don't want to get fired - which is the REAL atmosphere you wanted.

I'm not saying you didn't have any right to do what you did, and it is just business, not personal - it is capitalism, and I am a fan of capitalism. But you just told your remaining 12,000 employees that performance DOES NOT MATTER - just keep your eyes on your mop, and they will be outsourced as soon as they are no longer needed (ex. HR).

GOOD LUCK cleaning up this mess. For the sake of my friends and the talent remaining at Target, I sincerely hope that you can figure this out.
