Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Services for those left behind?

I'm having a hard time coping with the stress and uncertainty and loss of my coworkers. Often, businesses will provide counseling services for the employees that stay behind. Is any of that being offered to help us get through this trying time, or only for those who were laid off?

HR was NEVER there for me. I was a high performer for 5 years, then all of a sudden a low performer because I was straight with someone who was a favorite. HR didn't do squat for me. Go to the EAP people.

Good for you, 766, for getting out. Congratulations on your "post Target" success.

Wow 602, seems kind of like my situation was with them. Can't say I got depressed, but it was stressful and frustrating and led to my decision to get the heck out of dodge. It was clear I was a target by the group managers and Director for some reason that wasn't clear. I even had my manager who came in from the outside that later reached out to me after I left (whom after Target I am now good friends with) tell me that the Director had her favorites and had it out for me and he could never get her to share why and she would just over-rule his review scores and move me down from the high performer tag. So toxic there and so glad I left. I got a 30% bump in pay from my next job and in less than 4 years I have doubled my salary through multiple successes in another company.

As a former employee....absolutely DO NOT talk with HR. They are there for company first. Please take the advice of getting services outside of the Company. I am so sorry to hear that you are struggling. When I left the company years ago it was because they had become so unethical and I just could not stand it anymore. AND I was starting to be a target to be picked on, which caused anxiety and depression, especially after so many years of excellent and outstanding reviews. I did have to receive counseling for a time period because of the way they treated me and other employees. It does still sting today and I am sorry for the people who got laid off, but I think in the long run it is a good thing. Since Bob Ulrich left the company has become such a toxic environment that it s not healthy.

Ignore 80222... the absolute last thing I would do right now would be to confide in a Target HR rep. They are just out to stab the rest of the team in the back. Follow the other advice here and use the confidential resources instead.

I second the employee assistance program. They can provide 2 - 3 counseling sessions free. I used it last year when I was going through some really tough times with my former manager. And the counselor has an office right down at the health I thought she was good to talk with.

Use the Employee Assistance Program. It is free and confidential.

Sorry to hear about your struggle. Have you considered talking to someone in your church?

Check on the internal website under the benefits links. There should be a link to a employee resources program. The other suggestion to check coverage under health insurance is a good one too. I'm sorry to hear you are struggling. This is a big loss filled with grief for all.

Contact your HR rep. He/she will be able to point you in the right direction. They deal with personal issues like this all the time. It's what they get paid to do. Your health insurance provider may also offer over the phone grief counseling free of charge, regardless of reason. Hang in there OP.
