Wasn't this the reason behind this massive cut at HQ? Too many people in management positions and not enough people reporting to them? Distribution Centers are like that for sure!

Some SGL's were laid off last week they had no clue it was coming either. They figured HQ layoffs not them since they were already short staffed and working 60-70 hour work weeks. I suppose the few left will simply work longer hours to fill in.
So did any GLs or SGLs get axed from the distribution centers? Woodbury and Fridley hired a bunch of GLs 6-8 months ago, right?
Two years ago the DCs were "optimized" with a 25% reduction in manager/supervisor head count. In the last 10 months DC logistics was eliminated in every DC and those jobs shifted to other people as added responsibility.
I've worked in stores, distribution centers and HQ...I would love to see how my HQ peers would handle the same type of productivity and other metrics used in the stores and DC's to rate performance. I asse they wouldn't hold up well, or at least Starbucks would go out of business due to the lack of "coffee status".
There isn't any positions at the DC level that doesn't have anyone reporting to them, except TBP's who do a ton with our carriers, stores, and sometimes vendors. Their roles are just as important as Inbound Gl like myself who has plenty of people reporting to me, and have been in a position optimized.
As stated below, there is no one at the DC level (where I work) that has the "management" or "leader" title without anyone reporting to them. There are 2 or 3 HR BP (business partners). I don't think anyone knows what they do...if anything. This is, of course, only at the DC I work at. It seems there is no consistency throughout the pyramid with how DCs are run so other DCs may be different.
If you have the word "leader" or "manager" in your title, and you have no one reporting to you, then you are management and you are one that needs to go.
I take it you haven't spent much time in a DC. Who are these "management" people without anyone reporting to them? We have GLs, who have an entire dept of team members reporting to them. We have SGLs, who have all the departmental GLs reporting to them. We have a GM, who has all the SGLs reporting to them. That is it.
