Thread regarding Weatherford International Ltd. layoffs

W.T.F

So I decided yesterday to give Weatherford my 2 week notice as any good employee would, seeing how the decline of the company is coming. I have been nothing but a hard working employee who would change schedules and come in early at every request. When I walked in today I sat through out daily safety meeting with both my QC and QA supervisors in attendance. After the meeting I reported back to my assigned area as expected, only to be met 30 mins later by my supervisor and a fellow inspector so I could be perp walked off the facility like a common criminal. This is Weatherford's policy. A unnecessary policy for people who take early retirement or put in their two weeks notice. I enjoy how I do the right thing by putting in the notice and Weatherford gives a 5 min notice and feels like that is acceptable by any standards. This company has no compassion for their employees and only cares about the 'ol mighty dollar. The part that really chaps my ass is that this decision to release me was made around 0630 this morning however during the meeting it was all smiles. They could have let me know then. I was informed however that I am eligible for rehire. So I guess if I ever wake up in he land of unicorns and rainbows I might consider subjecting myself to the incompetent, unrealistic, blind, money hungry upper management that is running this once great company into the ground. Or someone can just kick me in the balls and save me the trouble. I should probably submit this under a pseudonym but why hide. Managers if you read this wake up and cut lose the dead weight and treat your hard working produces right. The ones that keep this company going are the men and women on the floor moving parts not the ones sitting behind a desk.

The way people are terminated within an organization says a lot.

From what I read on these posts, it's humiliating for many.

This shows the decline of corporate America, and the oil patch.

"Management" turn into punks, empowered to do the dirty work. They don't trust you, because the Devil knows himself.

People are now measurements, because metrics is King.

Middle and senior managers are enabled to cut, and tend to lose empathy. They aren't really managers empowered to make decisions. They are puppets of their Lordly executive masters to cut the heads.

Execs know better than to do the head chopping themselves. Execs perform expertly - execs keep authority, but push responsibility down the organization. Thus managers get the stress and live with it.

Get real, about the industry. Realize that this is about extracting fossil fuels from below the surface.

At the end of the day, dust in the wind. A bunch of plumbing, some electronics, and fluid moving machines to push those fossil fluids along.

There's a lot more to life, than extracting nasty fluids from below the ground.

Here's the big picture. Corporate is like a big TIT. Until you learn to be independent, you will forever remain sucking on it./

And USA oilfield corporate will squeeze every drop out of you for the next few years if you "survive".

Understand this: the party is over for a long while. Confidence in sustained high oil prices is down the drain.

So, the lucky ones will get terminated soon. Those left behind to stay on the Corporate tit, will suffer.

Go find a church and learn how to pray regularly again.

Find your soul, love God, yourself and one another.

Don't worry. Walk away from consumerism, and find relaxation.

Learn how to live again.

If not, certain misery ahead.

Ok, what you should have done was to wait till the last day and then just quit.. You never know, during the 2 weeks before you start your other job, you may have hit the WFT loto like someone did a few weeks back! But, I know you probably didn't want to burn bridges, wanted to have a good rep. Catch 22 here! All I know is I've been here for 10 years now, been through many layoffs and they are never done the right way. It's kind of like we are all puppets here and the high up folks are standing above us moving the strings. Very stressful to say the least. My thought is, JUST DO IT AND GET IT DONE!!! If it has to happen, then do it. It's a bit like a bad relationship where one person is hiding the fact that they want to leave, and then BOOM, one day they are gone! Whatever, it is what it is, and that's all it will be! Good luck to you all, hold on for the ride!

The eligible for rehire part was funny to me too, I would rather commit suicide than work for Weatherford again.

Who in their right mind would want to for this company again. You are not the first my friend who turned in a 2-week notice and was given the boot the next morning. I've seen managers getting together at St. James Place and laughing about employees who were laid off. One manager told everyone in his department they were on 24/7 call, even if they were on vacation. I hope the good people left at WFT find new jobs soon. This way this company is run, it is destined for failure.
