Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Severance Package

Anyone know what the deal is with severance packages? I have heard that you stay on payroll until 4/18 AND receive your bonus, then get 6 weeks, get vacation paid out, and finally receive one week per year you have been at the company. Does anyone have any recommendations as far as the paper work goes? Is it even worth telling them you do not want to sign right away and have a lawyer look at the document? I feel like there probably isn't really much you can do but thought I would throw it out there for people that have gone through this in the past to offer up tips.... Just want to be prepared for this tomorrow if it happens to me and make the best of it!... Good luck to all

NEs do get their severances as well. Best to all this week and the coming months!

It's funny.. I was downtown 2 years and was at TPC like twice both for mandatory team events yet that place was packed both times. Who are those people that have enough free time to spend there?

Let's not make this into an NE vs E battle. I was NE for nearly 7 years and have been exempt for the last 4 years. I did a lot of grunt work before and still do a lot of it. It's not about what role you have, it's about how you do it. You should always have a lawyer look at it. I know 2 people from the Canada layoffs that did and their lawyer got them a little better package, but I knew 17 on a personal level 17 people that got the Canada ax and worked with a whole lot more.

Why the hell do the people who actually have to work for 40 hours a week, not go to TPC and go to coffees all day everyday get screwed on packages? The NEs aren't the problem. Why punish them?

If I get less than exempts I'll be really

Upset. I've been doing the exact same work as the exempts i work along side with for 18 months and can prove it. Best of luck to everybody

So I've heard from credible sources it was 3 weeks + 1 week for every year at Target.

Anon966- I think some nonexempts are looking for clarity. I read some old postings and it's all over the place. Some say you get 6 weeks plus years of service, others say you only get years of service.

Stop it! Non-exempts get severance too. I know and why scare people. Shame on you!

From what I have heard in the past is the NE's only get one week of pay per year worked. Exempts get a bonus and one week per year worked, (sometimes getting an extra where they are kept on the payroll for 3-8 weeks too).

What's listed by the OP is rumored to be what the Canada layoff folks got. This layoff will most likely be similar, but different.

Can someone who've been laid off from Target, especially if you are non-exempt...what you got? Did you get 6 weeks paid and years of service or only years of service.

I was laid off last year. If you've had somewhat recent changes to your pay or FTE status, WAIT TO SIGN IT, go home and figure out the calculations yourself for your severance lump sum. HR preps the packets FAR in advance so mine was incorrect and I was able to get it fixed (although its a pain). If you had no recent changes (like within 90 days), then chances are much better that it's correct, but still doesn't hurt to double-check it on your own and send in the signed paperwork.

That's not true. Non-Exempts have been getting 1 week severance for every year of service also.

That is the FUNNIEST statement I have read on this site!!! You are the best 'Anonymous77760' "Target knows what they are doing". Thank you I needed that laugh!!

Question about changing your exemptions on your check. I've heard severance packages get taxed at the same rate as bonuses (very high). Would changing your exemptions on your checks now make your lump sum check larger (knowing you'd have to pay more at tax time)? If I'm going to get the boot I'd rather get a bigger check now, even if it means paying in a year from now instead.

Unless you're non-exempt. Then you just get a box.

Sign it, run out the door, cheer, and find there is a great life after Target! I assure you that you will find something better and learn that being let go was a blessing. I feel sorry for those left behind holding the steaming bag after it's over! Good luck to you all! 10 years Target free and loving life!!

This sounds like a package for exempts. What about the NE package?

Just sign it. It sucks but Target knows what they are doing and not signing will only delay your benefits!
