I was a Buyer at Macy's when they closed the San Francisco, New York and Miami buying offices in 2009; thereby eliminating 5,500 jobs. I know exactly how you guys feel. Abandoned by a company you were so loyal to. Uncertain as to what life will be like after TGT. I know you probably feel lost, but trust me when I tell you that you will bounce back soon. I found a better paying job as a buyer in Miami within 2 months of separation. Only had to use 1/3 of my severance and used the rest to buy Macy's stock which is now trading almost 6x what it was back then! All of my colleagues that actually gave a damn, regardless of age, found gainful employment. We leaned on each other for support and shared tips, advice, met for drinks, etc during our transition. Some of us that found jobs quickly helped others get in the door. Some of us were contacted by other retailers on linkedin within days of the announcement. Some of us went to work for the vendors that called on us! A lot of us went to other companies and became immediate rockstars by leveraging things we had done at Macy's. Some of us that would still be Buyers at Macy's had the consolidation not happened are now Directors, VPs, SVPs and even EVPs. You will bounce back! Target is highly respected in retail; your "talents" are in demand and you will be in good shape in no time. I feel for you guys and pray you get through this unscathed. Keep your head up!

Nicely stated. I concur. I was laid off in 09 as well. It was one of the best things professionally that ever happened to me.
Great post! Badly needed perspective on the events of today.
Hard to believe, but very inspiring
