Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Rip to the bone and start fresh!

Talking about a rip-to-the bone approach on cost cutting and organizational shakeup. There is nobody in this list that shouldn't be. Trim the excess and move on. This was the right move. This move only allows the executives think about how can the company bear without those millions of meaningless reports that nobody read but needed 100 people to get produced each. No store needs these thousands of people to sell diapers and milk.

Build some new skills. Think about process improvement, get into a diploma course. Just go for the job of your dreams if you feel capable.

This is an insensitive, uninformed posting. From what I gather, personnel decisions were primarily tenure based and % to cut based. So, someone who worked in the same position for 10 years basically not growing and has peaked (or was never properly managed out of Target) can stay. However; someone there three years and on an upward trajectory was kicked out. Some good people were let go and some poor performers were allowed to stay. My heart goes out to all of those who need to navigate through this situation. There's also a silver lining. That place is going to be toxic as hell. The big wave just ended. The threat of more cuts will loom over the survivors for at least the next year. Re-orgs will occur. More work will be dumped on fewer people. The high performers who survived will have to pick up more slack for the poor performers with tenure who somehow made it through. Neither of them will be happy. There will be further attrition. It's going to be a toxic downward spiral. I've seen it before and it's depressing. At least those let go today don't have to live through that.

I used to work at Target. There's a lot of meaningful work out there, so don't fret too much. It took me a couple of months to un-vibe myself to realize how dumb of a workplace Target was.

While some of the cuts may have been necessary, I have a feeling "they" were looking at Org charts and throwing darts. I can think of 5 people I would rather see "pursue other opportunities" compared to who my team lost. Very difficult transition for us and this will not help our situation. Way to go Target!

I totally agree with the comment about Target Executives. How can one fail miserably at Target Canada but be brought back to the US and be given a job? Or promotion in some cases? We fire cashiers who can't bag fast enough but allow top executives to loose millions and still have a job?? EVP's protect their group of "yes men" which is why the company is in this place. They don't value individuals who push back or think outside of the box. They value people who are loyal to them. But at that level... They are in a win/win situation. They get the big bucks to stay or get the big package to go! I'd like to see some accountability. You make bad decisions that hurt the business or don't perform.., you get no package!

I do not work at Target. I have sadness for those who lost their job today. I can also wear my manager hat today and say Target was top heavy. A company that can eliminate 1700 positions shows senior management allowed too many positions to be created. Out of control for sure!!

Such is the posting that can occur anonymously. Put your name behind your comments, OP, and let's see what a big man you are.

Hey OP, how does the new TGT Kool-Aid taste? Less artificial sweeter than the old brew? From your post I would say it must be sour... your attitude tells me it puckered your ass up into a tight little bow.

Any how many executives and board members got let go again besides Gregg? :)

I am not sure why people think that this does anything for Target long term. It's the same people running the place that ran it into Canada.

You . . . you are not a very well educated individual, are you? And likely lacking in real world experience to boot . . .
