Target folks - take a deep breadth. I can relate to the anger, frustration, fear, and disappointment you are feeling. I was there last year, these decisions are made very high up - less surgical than you think. It's NOT personal, there are too many folks impacted to select specific individuals. I would guess decisions are largely formula based with a very high level understanding of departmental roles. It stinks, but if the leaders want to trim the kind of $ they are putting on the street, it's gotta happen. This will force non-performers out even if they aren't layed off, they will have fewer places to hide, as everyone will be required to contribute. Painful but necessary if you want to contract the excess.

Losing your livelihood seems pretty darn personal to me. Maybe that's the problem with big corporations they have forgotten that it is personal.
So it may not be personal but how many folks are going to be sticking around when they know this isn't the end and expect more to happen in two years? I certainly am considering bringing my skills elsewhere.
Consultants have been reviewing organizational structures to help make thinning decisions and its not personal.
These layoffs are different. I have never seen morale so low in my time here and there's no sense that things are going to get better.
