Just as likely a Lync problem as anyone really got laid off. Lync has to be the biggest piece of crap software ever made.

"Presence Unknown" is when the name is no longer in the system. I see it for the three saved contacts I have who were let go last round and a friend who recently changed her last name. So....yeah. Not a good thing in these circumstances.
