Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Layoff meeting invites?

For those of you that have experienced layoffs at TGT, what time did you receive the invite to the layoff meeting? Is it right away in the morning before you left for work or closer to the meeting time?

I was invited to a meeting with my manager. Then, we called a conference bridge. We were the only 2 in the conference room. Then, the others joined on the conference bridge. It was really weird. Then, the head of HR came on the bridge and announced that the reason we were there was that we were all being let go. Then, the sniffles and crying could be heard on the bridge. It was really terrible and tacky. Thankfully, I was given time to say goodbye to my friends.

I've been at Target 11 yrs. The so called 'you're staying' meeting is basically a division announcement made by your leader. It's more a "here's what's happening" meeting, it's quick, maybe 10 mins tops. The leaders don't say anything about "you're staying" but merely giving info.

Last year, my division had a "youre staying" meeting an hour after the layoff meeting. So it sounds like it varies.

Our department had a "you're stayinokg" meeting for Canada last month. I'm assumeding they'll do something similar at EOW, but that's just conjecture. Consistency hasn't always been this company's strong suit.

I stand corrected. The big one in 2009 did have a "you're staying" meeting although it was an informal stand-up with no room booked. Took place at 8:30 if I remember correctly. Those going had already been informed.

Been thru 4 layoffs at tgt...first one in 09 had 2 meetings...1 for those staying and 1 for those being let go. The past 3 layoffs only had the 1 for those going.

"at Target" ... not "at a Target." I've been at HQ this whole time.

I've been at a Target through every layoff since they were named "Target." Not once have I ever been invited to a "you're staying" meeting.

Do they always invite entire groups to attend a "you've been let go" or "your staying " meeting? Seems like they've just been inviting people to job elimination meetings and then seems fairly obvious as other team members haven't been invited?

Everyone will get an invite an hour or two before the meeting - but all people will be invited, they will be split into different groups. So, the group that stays will go in one direction and laid off folks will be summoned somewhere else. I hope this helps.

8am invite for a 9am meeting. the trick is you don't know what meeting you are going to....the group that stays or the group that leaves. best of luck to you all.
