I just witnessed a middle aged man pull his cell phone from his pocket to phone his wife that he had been let go. He was clearly emotional and fighting back tears. I wanted to put my hand on his shoulder to let him know that I cared... but I didn't. This broke my heart. I do not know what is going to happen but you are all in my thoughts and in my heart. He will be fine, middle aged is OK, the issue is with older folks who will have harder time finding well paying jobs. I hope they saved enough to weather the storm. We have many opportunities, and we'll be fine, the skillsets we developed are great and make us very marketable. So, I am sorry to see him go but I truly hope he will bounce back quickly. If I get the ax, I am not calling my husband, I will be delivering the message in person and after hours, no need for him to get upset at work - my personal preference, but I do understand this guy too.
