Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Contractors to be cut? save some TM jobs?

Hearing all contractors will be cut, or those above $100/hr will be cut? Anyone else hearing things along this? Hoping it saves some TM jobs

Our hourly TM cost to Target is much higher than our hourly take home pay... So you won't get much of a raise if any to get to that $100/hr cost.

I'm a contractor making 140 per hour. Sorry TGT team members aren't worthy to be in the same position as I am. Good luck to those affected by the layoffs :)

Exactly! Cut the contractors first. Overpaid and overrated.

Save some TM jobs by cutting contractors? You don't think we have families to feed as well? Whoever posted this, I hope your termed first.

(I was 77206) below. Many of the IT contractors at TNC are being tasked with being extra diligent in addressing risks posed by layoffs. As far as they're concerned, they are not touched.

hundred bucks an hour? Yeah you'll be just fine. Sell one of your "investment properties" and squeak by for a few months.

If Target is paying $100 / hour for my contract, I'd gladly accept a "raise" and they can pay me waaay less than that $100 / hour.

Good conversation but nobody addressing the original question, any contractors being let go too?

What people make and what their contract company bills the corporation are two different things. Plus a contract is a contract and much of the work is paid up front. You might be able to recoup some of the costs but any buyout would eclipse the job you would be trying to save.

I hate to break it to you, but there are contractors billing $500/hr plus in IT, especially in Security. $250/hr is a great deal for most.

The staffing agency takes 50%, taxes will be another 30% of what's remaining, the individuals have no benefits and tall, no 401k, no health, once you add everything up, one is happy if they can get 30% of what the initial amount is

And in many cases, we were forced to pay for expensive specialists, because Target brilliantly decided to not hire any US developers for the past 5 years (for most of tts).

I'm a contractor and I don't make anything near even half of $100/hr...

Realize that in most contractors situations they're not taking home $100 per hour if they're billing it. Depending on the contracting company they're taking home at times around 50-60% of that.

It's not as much as you think. If you're working for a contracting company they take a big chunk out of that $100. And you usually get little/no benefits. Factor all of that and you're lucky to be close to 6 figures. A very nice salary obviously but there's still plenty to worry about. These folks aren't the 1%.

If you're making over 100 an hour, I don't think you have much to worry about. Think about the little people...don't forget where you came from.

The cuts aren't just about saving money. They're about removing redundant people, groups and functions to help streamline the company overall. TM's sit on the company's financials to Wall Street. Contractors are expense items or capital for depreciation.
