Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

I'm exhausted

The discussions and speculation for the past week have been draining. The building anxiety has been gut-wrenching. Even if I don't get laid off this week, I'm pretty certain that I'm done with this company. This has just played out in such a weird way that makes me feel like I have zero value despite years of strong contributions and recognition for my work. Is this a psychological game? I deserve better. I am valuable.

I've been with the company 14 years and feel like the last few years have been more emotionally draining because nothing is ever right anymore and my opinions don't matter anymore and the lies of promotion make me feel hopeless. Cant wait for the day I get a job offer elsewhere

Thank you 76045. I wish that there was an easy way to claw back the millions from Steinhaffel or have the C levels relinquish not their base salary (which while in six figure teams is nice) but certain stock options (which is where the real money comes from). That is tricky, however, because 1) they are contracted employees and those benefits are part of the contract and 2) there is a perception that attracting/retaining talent at level would be made harder should they give certain folks the boot. With regard to transparency, there is a measure that exists and is better than in the past. At least this time, we've been given a bit of notice (along with the rest of the world) vs. it being all rumor all the time (e.g., October 2013 - January 2014). Hopefully between the whacks at the upper echelons (VP, KMG) and pruning at the mid- to lower levels, we'll get to the savings felt necessary to move forward and this won't become a hanging threat every 6-12-18 months, I hope I will still be at Target a week from now. If not, it will ok have been an interesting ride. If so, I hope those affected good hunting in your next adventure.

Have a drink and chill. It's not the end of the world.

Same here. Unfortunately, transparency would've been just as effective as the ambiguity. You're valuable and no one is disputing this. However, for Target to stick around for the future layoffs are a part of the unfortunate reality.

Yes, we all wish that people.from.the top would take paycut s or sacrifice their bonuses etc but this rarely happens with retail companies. We wish they'd sell off other assets, but they are locked into.leases. So, unfortunately, as hard as we work, as valuable as we are, we become expendable.

Can't keep a good guy/girl down! This is the time to write down everything you are good at and review the list. Pull out your resume or past reviews and remind yourself of the good work and results you achieved. We've got this!

Most people feel the same way as you all week. It's hard working scared.
