Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

My 2 Cents...

I remember how proud I was when I first got hired at Target as a NE team member! As time went on, things started happening that chipped away at that pride.

-Going on those comp shopping trips and seeing how RUDE and ARROGANT the Sr. Buyer and Buyers were to the workers of the stores we visited. Talk about shameful and embarrassing.

-Witnessed on multiple occasions buyers chewing out vendors for mistakes the BUYER had made. I learned right away that people will throw you under the bus really quick to save their own ass. This is where i learned to save EVERYTHING in the J drive. Nothing more satisfying than throwing those old emails back in someone's face.

-Witnessed a Sr. Buyer bully (or as they say at Target, "coach out") a NE team member for no reason. You don't go from getting Excellent review scores to barely meeting expectations after a few months of moving to a new area - keep in mind same job just new area.

-The complete discrimination Target showed to it's NE employees. The biggest example - that national sales meeting (you know, the one where celebrities come). The meeting was cancelled for NEs due to "lack of space". Funny how through the Facebook posts by our "professional" exempts you could see there was plenty of space there. It was also super fun to sit at the lunch table listening to the team talk about the "awesome" meeting. Talk about feeling like part of the team!

-Passive aggressive feedback sessions where managers/team members pretended to care about your development. Yea right! Just another bullet point for them to add to their internal resumes/reviews to show they "mentored" someone.

-Coffee/coffee/coffee. How do you have 4 coffee statuses in one morning?!

-22 year old recent college brats, i mean grads, coming into the BA role with their entitlement and "i'm going to be promoted in 18 months just because some HR goon said I am" attitude.

Now that I am on the outside, it is SO easy to see that that "Target is SO COOL!" mentality only exists within Target. Guests care about one thing and one thing only - get what they want at the best price. They don't care one bit that there is some over compensated buyer in her trendy leggings (up her ass), carrying her skinny vanilla latte through the great hall with an I'm better than you mentality thinking that THAT'S WHY YOU SHOULD COME SHOP AT TARGET - because of ME I'm PERFECT just like Target. Puke.

@Anonymous76956 - where in this post does it say the OP is angry about not going to see celebrities at some meeting? Anyone with half a brain can read that the point of that statement is that target excludes NE team members.

Your intelligence level is amazing! Target should be proud of having someone with your IQ on the team...

Really, you're angry because you can't go to a FNM to see celebrities? Is that what you're worried about Celebrities? That should be the last thing you are complaining about. If you really want to and feel the need to see celebrities become exempt then. And no, there isn't enough room for all NE's to attend. Those pictures you see are very misleading; however, with Canada no longer attending these meetings (if we even have them anymore) there would be room but not fall all NE's.

Also, NE's rule the roost. In my department they can work from home whenver they want. Up until March 1st they were getting all the overtime they wanted. I am sure half of them made more than I did on my salary and I worked just as many hours. If you don't let them have what they want they nail you on the Leadership Upwards Feedback.

So be smart and use your NE status as an advantage instead of thinking of all the ways it is not. From your post you are the one that is coming across as "entitled".

And just for the record I do not feel entitled to anything as an exempt. I worked hard to get where I am. I was NE once too. I treat every NE team member the way I would want to be treated so to put all of us Exempts in the same category as "piece of shit" is ignorant.

@75701: We (the "rest of downtown") do laugh at the Red/Khaki Masses during the National Meeting and we're laughing now. This little labor correction seems to be long overdue. It would be really, really nice if it brings the overall attitude down a notch or two. Humility wears much better than arrogance. Regards, Fellow (non-Target) Downtown Worker

This new CEO will be more than happy to affect thousands of hard working individuals with these massive layoffs. Meanwhile he continues to collect on his big bonuses and enjoys his ridiculous salary. Look at what he did with his previous positions and the thousands he affected. Many were so quick to embrace him. Coming into work wondering if today is your last day is wrong. What do think of him now?

Anonymous75696 - True!! Little does the red and khaki mass know that the rest of downtown is secretly laughing at them as they strut around thinking they own the world as they go to and from that lame koolaid pep rally.

Anonymous75690 - um OK then. The problem is your precious Exempts don't make that work up. How many have witnessed the Es "work from home" yet take 2 hours to respond to a simple IM? Don't worry they will have a NE to throw under the bus when their boss tries to hold them (Es) accountable.

Any true employee would rather have an afternoon off then go to the FNM

Don't NE get paid for every minute/hour they work? If so, what's the problem? If you pick up the slack for exempt employees, are you not paid for the hours you worked? Just because Exempt employees work 2 hours today, it doesn't mean they don't have to work 14 hours tomorrow to make up? If they don't get their work done, then someone should tell their boss that.

PREACH!! This is all so true for Merch and TSS, although I did work with some good people in both. A big reason I left was not being able to move up because I was NE - therefore somehow deficient to be E. I was never given a legit reason why there are even NE positions at HQ, and not for lack of trying. The same positions at other companies are salaried.

To label all EX team members that was is immature and inaccurate. I am EX and have equal respect for NE and contractors. Where I come from, we are one big team responsible for our job duties and being professional. The OP doesnt have any of these qualities obviously and will go nowhere in their professional career with that horse shit attitude.

Not all BAs and buyers are as described in this post, but I can vouch that the majority are. Not all NEs feel this way (most likely because they've conformed to the happy hours and after hour hangouts with their BAs and have basically become best friends with their manager), but the majority of NE specialists can relate to this post. You really don't move on to an exempt role unless you've either done your 4 yrs due in a NE position or your best buddies with your mgr. Buyers and PMs aren't equipped to develop specialists. They don't give a shit. 90% of them are forced to do it and could give shit.

I agree 100% with this!! BA assholes and bitch Buyers and Sr. Buyers. Some of the divisionals are assholes too, including a certain one who looks like she used her high salary on botox and plastic surgery. She had huge issues with her team making decisions without her approval. I hope shes out next week!!

Agree with all of this. Being NE at target is like being a leper. No perks and constantly treated as less than. My personal fav is watching the ex team members constantly abuse working from home and working less than 40 hours a week. I personally hope that a lot of these people are hit in layoffs next week. They are a drain on the company and do no work... Bc they have the NEs to pick up the slack, who can't say a word about it. Keep in mind also, fellow NEs.. Like everything else in the company, even your severance if you're laid off next week won't be the same as those entitled, piece of shit exempts.
