I remember how proud I was when I first got hired at Target as a NE team member! As time went on, things started happening that chipped away at that pride.
-Going on those comp shopping trips and seeing how RUDE and ARROGANT the Sr. Buyer and Buyers were to the workers of the stores we visited. Talk about shameful and embarrassing.
-Witnessed on multiple occasions buyers chewing out vendors for mistakes the BUYER had made. I learned right away that people will throw you under the bus really quick to save their own ass. This is where i learned to save EVERYTHING in the J drive. Nothing more satisfying than throwing those old emails back in someone's face.
-Witnessed a Sr. Buyer bully (or as they say at Target, "coach out") a NE team member for no reason. You don't go from getting Excellent review scores to barely meeting expectations after a few months of moving to a new area - keep in mind same job just new area.
-The complete discrimination Target showed to it's NE employees. The biggest example - that national sales meeting (you know, the one where celebrities come). The meeting was cancelled for NEs due to "lack of space". Funny how through the Facebook posts by our "professional" exempts you could see there was plenty of space there. It was also super fun to sit at the lunch table listening to the team talk about the "awesome" meeting. Talk about feeling like part of the team!
-Passive aggressive feedback sessions where managers/team members pretended to care about your development. Yea right! Just another bullet point for them to add to their internal resumes/reviews to show they "mentored" someone.
-Coffee/coffee/coffee. How do you have 4 coffee statuses in one morning?!
-22 year old recent college brats, i mean grads, coming into the BA role with their entitlement and "i'm going to be promoted in 18 months just because some HR goon said I am" attitude.
Now that I am on the outside, it is SO easy to see that that "Target is SO COOL!" mentality only exists within Target. Guests care about one thing and one thing only - get what they want at the best price. They don't care one bit that there is some over compensated buyer in her trendy leggings (up her ass), carrying her skinny vanilla latte through the great hall with an I'm better than you mentality thinking that THAT'S WHY YOU SHOULD COME SHOP AT TARGET - because of ME I'm PERFECT just like Target. Puke.
