Thread regarding Occidental Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Heres to lower oil

This shit company and its shit, bigoted employees are suffering right now. I've warned off a number of people in engineering from accepting jobs at this place - thankfully many of them took positions with other companies. With luck, oil will go lower (Oxy is heavy in oil) and the filth in this company will pay for it with their jobs.

Enjoy your free time.

The original post appears to be an ex-employee let go. I can only speculate but maybe for poor performance or a bad attitude. As an employee and shareholder, OXY is better positioned to weather the storm (yes I believe that what has happened over the past 13 months is only the outer bands of a big hurricane hitting the oil and gas industry and we have more to come) than many others - whether larger or smaller.

As to overall morale - I don't know what it is like for other companies directly, but I would expect that at $50/bbl for WTI, everyone in the industry is concerned about their job and career future. However, what I have observed so far at OXY is that we have cut capex and reducing opex while trying to keep our employees - so, while there have been some layoffs, based on what I've heard (do not know as fact) that our layoffs have been much more limited than similarly situated competitors -- certainly less than the oilfield services companies like Schlumberger, Halliburton, Weatherford, Baker Hughes and the like.

I loved working there the times I did on Contract jobs. I saw nothing but many happy people there that loved working there. They are not a shit company Mr. "Here's to lower oil"! Why would you wish that on anyone? Yes, find a shrink. Geeeeez.

Oxy is playing it smart, lower capex but hang on to your talent. We need to be ready for the rebound and take advantage of the downturn to grab some good deals that will be available soon. I'm proud to be a part of the Oxy team and look forward to where we are headed!

Any particular reason I should not go work for Oxy? So far Marathon, BP, Schlumberger, Halliburton, Nabors, Weatherford have layoff many of their people but not Oxy. It seems Oxy at least is trying to protect their people. Do you have any insights against the company or just oil companies overall?
