Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Could be much deeper than we think....

I pray this is not true, however fear that it is. I have a close friend that I will just say is not at a low level HR position. She has informed me that the next two weeks are going to be much more painful and "deeper" than has even been reported to the street and media in the last few days. She states that Cornell has said he wants to make sure he "gets it right", meaning not having to go back and do even more cuts to get the business model right. As such, he is making the cuts large and deep, so deep that it will very much be felt by those that are left as far as the work load and performance expectations. I am not sure if the last part are her words or his.

I pray this is pad info, but fear she is right.

All I know is, myself and the other two engineers I work with are working 50+ hour work weeks as it is. If one of us got cut, the other two would be drowning in work.

2000 would be a low number. There are cuts because we're bloated/unproductive (2-to-1 ratio for what we really need in some areas), cuts because we're eliminating projects and/or lessening focus on certain areas, and then cuts where we're choosing to heavily automate (DOST for example). The flip side is that we will still be hiring in some areas of enhanced focus - engineering and architect talent in TTS will still be heavily recruited, for example. The last number I heard from a DMG+ was ~2000 next week, and a total NET of ~5000 reduction by end of year across all corp campuses (roughly 26k TMs today).

I don't know, I try not to judge based on the way someone uses their time. That's the point of work.different right? That we use our time as we see fit with the condition that we still deliver results? Those people you see coffee-ing may be getting in at 6am every morning, or working late nights. Employees are empowered to manage their own clock- not necessarily a bad thing. On the other hand, who's doing work right now as in this week? Absolutely no one. Finding it hard to muster up any motivation with all of this uncertainty.

Who's doing any work right now? All I've ever seen is a bunch of wandering around, socializing, getting coffee, running to the store, making excuses to visit another building, etc. I'll bet the farm that Cornell landed at HQ and went "WTF is going on here?" It's like everybody forgot they're not in college anymore and that there is actual work expected. Wal-Mart has three times the stores (and in successful international markets) and has just slightly more corporate employees. Plenty of fat to be trimmed at the Bullseye. We have departments that have meetings to decide when the next meetings are going to be. This isn't work. It's tasks expanding to fill time.

I hope your friend is wrong, it's simply impossible to believe that even 2000 will be cut, guys, imagine who would do work
