Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Cornell

I would guess that Cornell arrives in the executive garage, takes the Ulrich lift to TPS-26 in the AM. Spends the day on the floor and takes the lift to the garage in the PM. I would not think that he drifts through the great hall, dines in Target Cafe or wanders Nicollet Ave. At least, I wouldn't imagine he would get to know the city. Douche.

"Turnaround" keeps being repeated but am I the only one who noticed that all of the ideas advocated for on Tuesday are current projects already being executed? TGT express, flex fulfill, growing omnichannel. Stock is at an all time high. Q4 earnings exceeded expectations. Contrasted with the fact that the stock price didn't meaningfully move after announcing the layoffs. Critique after critique on this site about coffees and GTKYs while Apple, Facebook, and other leaders of industries are designing every detail of their buildings to ensure there's as much casual interaction between their employees as possible. Could TGT be doing things better? Yup. Would layoffs help? Yes, If (and this is a motherfucking big IF) the right people/positions are cut. Could the C-suite executives, VPs, even Directors in many cases, have any idea who needs to stay and go? You all know the answer to that.

And he is making about $18 million more a year than you, so I don't think it is the same...

I've seen him several times in the cafe. Doesn't get more accessible then that.

He stood behind me today in line for food in the cafe. I am nervous like everyone, of course, but I have to admit it reminded me that Brian is human like all of us. If he doesn't do what he is doing, none of us might have jobs in the years to come. I'm sure it keeps him up at night as well.

I don't think this has been handled well. It's decimated morale and destroyed whatever culture we had.

That said, I see Cornell walking the skyway, far away from TPS and he seems like an ok guy who is doing exactly what he is paid to do.

Both layoff announcements were timed to maximize perception on the Street while disregarding how TMs are impacted. Messaging to the workforce that every area will be touched but not providing a timeline is absolutely odd and incredibly counterproductive to GSD and morale. I think it's entirely appropriate for some backlash to appear on anonymous forums and arguably it's healthy to vent under the stress of losing your livelihood in the coming days, weeks, months...

Brian has been CEOs of Pepsico Americas Foods, Sam's Club & Michaels and CMO of Safeway. All of his businesses have grown under his leadership. Large scale turnarounds based on anaytics is what the does. Layoffs are always a horrible thing but the man knows what he is doing.

I'm just as much at risk as anyone, but I don't see how it's productive to go online and make up stories about the man. Honestly, your personality on display here is what's putting you at risk. What would possess you to write what you did? It's all supposition, and nasty.

F*** both of you. That is cool that he knows you by name. I guess that means you aren't worried about losing your job. Douche.

Bitterness is not a flattering wear.

He's taking the steps he feels he needs to in order to remain competitive. Layoffss are horrible but sometimes necessary.

None of that is accurate. He's much more accessible than Gregg was, and is very approachable. I see him about a lot. I had one meeting with him, and he greets me by name when he sees me. He seems smart, thoughtful, and reasonable, unlike his predecessor. He listens well; I don't know anyone who has met him who doesn't feel positively toward him afterward, which certainly wasn't the case with Gregg.

He also goes to stores unannounced, and talks with guests at length. Your profile couldn't be more inaccurate.

What did Brian Cornell do prior to coming to Target?
