Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Awkward

Is it really possible that posts here get hundreds of views within minutes and thousands of views within an hour or two? Is someone faking this? Any thoughts? How about you tech people?

@ Anonymous73892 Get over yourself girlfriend! Guess you will have to find another company that lets you wander around with your skinny latte, leggings up your butt, nose in the air and holier than thou attitude to support your family. YOU people are the ones that drove this company into the crapper. Guess what?! your poop DOES stink!

In my history those that feed off of others misery and judge based on appearances are unhappy with themselves or who they are. You want to be that frat guy or you wouldn't have such a strong opinion on the subject. So sorry that you weren't invited to join that fraternity and sorry that the girl from Delta Delta Delta that you longed for in your Econ class turned you down on that date you so wanted to go on with her. But it's time to grow up and move on. Me having a coffee status and walking in Target should have no bearing on you or your day. You have no idea what we work on or what we do in our day to day jobs. So, I suggest you get a life, get to work and stop worrying about the cafe latte I am drinking and what I am wearing and who I am with cause honestly it's quite creepy! We are people, with families and we rely on our jobs and our pay to support those families. So for you to quote "get a ringside seat to the action" lets hope that you don't accidentally get knocked out of your current position gawking. Because let me tell you something karma is a bitch and you leaving petty comments on how we act and dress on this site shows in the wake of what we are going through shows exactly the kind of person you are and quite frankly I would rather be the person drinking a latte meandering through Target than a disgusting creepy stalker who laughs at others misery.

This site comes up at the top of the search results for "target layoff" in Google. So my guess is that there's a lot of people like me, non-target employees, that check out some of the threads to get a feel for whats going on.

Different TGT employee here. Many of us have a healthy respect for our fellow skyway professionals. Completely sympathize with the curiosity but please don't judge all of us from the appearances of some, or anonymous statements made under the duress of impending layoffs. And Dude, most of us don't have strong opinions on leggings but don't let being a dude keep you from wearing leggings.

I'm a dude, so no leggings. Also, one of the faster walkers you'll meet. Actually, I usually have a hard time getting around the "Tar-bots" as they walk five abreast through the skyway or down the Mall. I have been laid off before myself and I really don't like to see it happen to others. I really don't. That said, the general attitude at Target HQ could stand to come down a few notches.

Former Target marketing employee (quit in 2011). This is a really strange comments thread, but it did touch upon a subject I found interesting.

I was recruited by Target from a different city. I got a nice signing bonus, and lots of encouragement to move to a city I was not at all familiar with (and I stayed in fact). My plan was to put in my 2.5 years and quit and move back, and I ended up lasting about 5 years.

Target to me was just a gig. Always was, and it was a nice place to work for a while, then the flaws of its infamous high school mentality culture finally got under my skin, so I left for a better position elsewhere before losing my sanity. So you know "What was high school like for you" is a question you will get asked by the shrinker when they do your leadership profile. (Hint: If you ever got stuffed in a locker, then you don't belong there)

But what boggled my brain was the other people I met...they acted as if they died and went to heaven for working at Target. I never understood this. Not once. There are many corporations that have a sensible culture. But for these people, it was almost a lifestyle to them. Like, their entire sense of self-worth was defined by the red badge. And yes, people who feel that way definitely deserve the job more than my ungrateful presence did. But I always felt -- and I'm sorry to say this -- such people were suckers...courtesans in fact. Because Target, like any large corporation, sees you as an as asset. The love is fleeting, and hardly reciprocated. Respect, by all means, respect. But preserve your love for the people that actually matter in your life.

Anyway, end of soapbox.

To the last poster, I also work downtown and I had the same thought as you. I don't enjoy seeing anyone get laid off, but your description of more than a few Target HQ people I've seen is spot on.

I have nothing to do with Target. Just another Downtown worker wanting to get as close to ringside as I can. I've always wanted to ask one of the Special/Chosen Target HQ Pretties what they are supposed to be doing besides wandering around the store, getting coffee and turning their noses up at everybody else in the skyway and on the Mall. I guess now I know. That WAS their job. I suspect that more than a few of us non-Target downtown people are kind of enjoying this. Maybe now Target HQ will look a little less like a sorority/fraternity house (Tau Gamma Tau!!!) and a little more like a Fortune 500 company.

A techie here - just look at number of replies. It looks like there is a direct correlation between number of views and number of replies. It's around 1%, so for every 100 views, they get one reply. Faking number of views would be easy, but to fake replies they would have to write all replies by themselves, that would be very labor intensive and would absolutely make no sense as there are probably thousands of companies on this board. So, by doing some basic math, and given how quickly replies and views are being displayed, I'd say that at any given point in time there are at least two to three hundred Target people reading this, earlier in the day the pace of posting was relentless, I'd venture to say that there was at least a thousand people reading this at the same time. Just my two very humble techie cents.
