248, the MPG analogy makes some sense, and it would be more valid if students finished degree programs. So many of them saw classes as a way to get a check. Of course they defaulted, because they did not earn a degree and therefore could not pay off loans. Take some responsibility!

The for-profit industry did not create this environment on their own. As a nation, we have created society of people not wanting or incapable of being responsible for their own actions.
Anonymous72435: To be clear, it doesn't excuse giving students false placement rates, or our aggressive sales tactics, or our "don't think about it, just sign" one-stop shop. The problem is that our system is designed to sign up the students who are truly unmotivated and want all of their decisions made for them. That's what we do. Our tactics turn off most students who actually have the wherewithal to research colleges and compare the pluses and minuses. So we end up with unmotivated students who don't even really want to be there, but have been led to believe that everything will be done for them. It's an ugly system, and it doesn't produce skilled workers who are willing/able to be productive citizens. And all of this on billions of dollars of taxpayer money. Add to that our horrible work culture and abusive managers, and it's pretty clear why Corinthian failed. The sad thing is that it really looks like Zenith is going to be the exact same. It's just extending the life of a failing enterprise (and one that SHOULD fail) a few months or years longer. What's the point?
425: You nailed it. Even to have $60K+ forgiven, they wouldn't want to do any actual work. That's the main problem with our student population, and also why a lot of us don't feel bad for them.
I want to see an "Everest Avengers" reality tv show. The winning avenger will get his/her loans paid off. We can really see what they're made of -- have a singing contest (ooohh...bye bye LaTonya), obstacle course, throw in some cooking. I'll bet you every single one would say "screw it, sounds like work...I'd rather just default." Just sayin'...

You guys realize that if your car's manufacturer outright LIED to you about how many MPGs it got, you would have a case against them. CCi LIED to students about placement rates, a piece of information upon which many of them made decisions.
I am going to stop paying my car bill. I was not told that these pesky things need gas to work. I am going to file a lawsuit against the dealer and the car manufacturer for not telling about using gas to move my car. I need 14 people to make my own 15 avengers!
I refuse to pay any utility bills. I was not aware that some invisible electrons here being pumped into my home and fed to my devices through some wall sockets (I assumed these were decorative). Now they expect me to pay for this? Where are the results? I don't see any evidence of this "electricity."

I am starting a group called the Vegas One. I refuse to pay my mortgage because I was lied to by "Flipping Vega$." I also have been defrauded. My house value did not double when I added marble floors and a farmhouse sink with a home equity line. Hear me Wells Fargo? I will not pay. This is sending a message.
