Thread regarding Corinthian Colleges Inc. layoffs

For those who think students are going to for profit colleges to get paid

At most cci schools students don't see a penny the financial aid money. The programs exceed the maximum aid a student can get so they need to take out private loans as well. Again most everest and wyotech students don't get a penny in their pocket. Please know that before you speak.

Your story is most of the stories with Everest, sad to say. Those making high salaries want the shame to be hidden and continue as they rake in the bucks. And I am not just speaking of the upper administration, its even those that attack on this blog when the truth is spoken.

I am a former student of Everest online and I did not receive stipends. I didn't receive enough federal money to cover costs and took out genesis loans to cover the rest of tuition. The amount of debt that I incurred by attending this school is not what I was told it would be in the beginning. I was looking for a convenient way to get my degree in paralegal studies while working a full and part time job. I definitely take the blame for not researching my options better, but these for profit schools do employ deceptive tactics to bait you in. I just needed a career change after 20 years working as a vet tech, but all I received was a worthless degree and $58,000 worth of debt. My only hope is that the state of Florida and NALA will accept the degree so I can get my certifications. I'm Hoping prospective employers will look more at the certifications and work experience, not the degree. And, going back to the loans, when I went through the admissions process and setting up the financial aid, I chose to have any unused funds applied back to my loan balance. Of course, there was never any extra that went back to my account which seems weird since I have $58,000 of debt and only an AS degree to show for it. I have now realized that I could have a Master's degree for that amount of money had I researched better and not been taken advantage of by a corrupt business.

The person that spends his time correcting grammar on a blog is the same person who says the students don't get any money. They are an idiot, probably a cheerleader for Admin. They probably correct text messages from their estranged kids too! Only losers get mired in the weeds of the immaterial.

Anonymous72098: The Fed rules are changing under Zenith? Are you nuts? Students complete the FAFSA and that, along with grade level, determines how much money they get (free and loans). If Zenith is going to cost less 9as they've said it will) that means even MORE students will be able to take out money in excess of direct school costs. That means even MORE stipend checks for living expenses. Why even comment if you're totally clueless about how any of this works? Dumbass!

They don't get a dime where I work at. Must be online or at the schools with dorms but all the California campuses I know of with certificate programs don't get anything in their pocket

The only reasons students called me, I'm an online instructor, was asking about their financial aid check.

My response, "You are failing the course so you might want to look at that too while you are at it."

074 is correct. It had to be a student that posted because they couldn't spell write right. But seriously, they did get monthly rent and living checks under the previous loans. Things are changing under Zenith though, most students will not qualify for the stipends and will need to pay cash for rent and living expenses. This should have a positive effect on the quality of enrollees but it will definitely have a negative effect on the number of enrollees.

Students don't get any money, huh? Sure, that's why I had students pestering me for their checks at the start of every quarter. From day one it was, "Where's my check? I should have it already." Of course, the DoF made them wait to get their check until after the add/drop period....because she wanted to keep her job.

Wyotech students get rent and living checks every month its parts of the loan, which they never will pay back. Hard to keep a job when they cant read or wright.

True. I can't believe the times I've seen people refer to stipends here. Students don't get stipends.
