Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

What is going on with this board?

Our board is now exactly like the CCI board was a few months ago. It seems now that there are a bunch of bitch babies with their personal attacks, bullying, and outright lies. Some of the posts I read are ridiculous, blatant lies, and not even good lies at that. I'm not pretending to know what will happen to us, but I do my best and choose to remain optimistic that we will be sold. What I choose not to do is blast anyone with a different opinion than mine. It's about respect.

And to the person who thinks they are cool taking pot shots at Matt Ormond, just back off jack. Matt is a good man and a good leader. Do you ever wonder why no one rallies around you after you post about him? Maybe it's because we see you for who you are, which is an angry and insecure employee, or ex-employee, who went up against him for a position and lost. Get over it already, it's time to move on. Personally attacking Eeva as well is doing nothing but embarrassing yourself.

There is no buyer for Heald. The truth hurts.

654, this is the OP. Thanks for the post and you brought up some good points. To clarify a couple of things. First, I get that just because my experience with Heald has been, and continues to be good, that others may not have had the same experience. That's ok, to each his own. Also, I am not blindly defending anyone or anything. I have spent the last 9 or so months with my eyes and mind open, taking in and processing all the information that has been reported, both good and bad. I am making the deliberate choice to defend Heald because I still believe in what we do. I also choose to defend Matt, not because he needs it, but because I am protective of my family and friends, and I consider Matt a friend. I choose to believe that Heald will be sold and that we will be ok. I may be wrong, and that's ok, this is just my opinion.

748, Sports salaries have no impact whatsoever on the cost of tuition. Coaches' salaries are paid through TV contracts and money from big donors, but that's a red herring. The issue is that for-profit schools make money from financial aid by making promises to students that they would get jobs in certain fields when they graduate. The more students, the more money. Admissions reps lied to students, career services reps exaggerated on placements. Advertising falsified information about available programs. Instructors lowered standards such that pretty much everyone passed. Pretty much no department was innocent. It all caught up to them, and folks like you refuse to accept that now the chickens are coming home to roost.

@654: If you want to talk about taking the profit out of education, you need to turn to the biggest issue here, the fact that the U.S. Government is using Financial Aid as a source of income. They're interested in making money out of the interest on student loans. Too, 6-figure salaries for board members and tenured professors and million dollar contracts for sports coaches are jacking up the price of tuition.. and that's NOT the for-profit sector. I don't need to talk about the problems there, they're talked to death here already but.. yeah...

669, thanks for sharing your opinion. Also, thank you for helping me prove my point. If it makes you feel better to attack me and call me names for expressing my opinion then go for it brother. You're not hurting me, just simply proving my point.

Given the circumstances, the bitching and whining on this site is understandable. What I can’t stomach is the self-righteous, sanctimonious drivel from people like OP.

Lies, you mean like the posts linking directly to the lawsuit filings, and those ones linking directly to the department of education? Well, you may not like them, and they may be negative to your cause, but they aren't lies.

I'm with 654. The trouble came when Heald went or profit. Butts in seats become more important than whether students learn anything or are actually prepared for the fields they are trying to enter. There are people with felony records being admitted to criminal justice programs. People with developmental disabilities being admitted to programs they will never be able to enter. As for Eeva, the buck's got to stop somewhere, if not with her, where?

Planned bitchery... Haha. More like finding and outlet to freely express yourself without the worries of retribution. Maybe people work here but don't want people to find out? Whistle-blowers perhaps?

I'm with you, the personal attacks don't get anyone anywhere. What needs to be done is to fix the practices that are causing the issues. The biggest one is taking the profit out of the students education. The moment Heald went for profit and had investors to please with more revenue, then the students became nothing more than paying customers and the focus went from quality education, to quantity. How many new students can we get this quarter? how many people can we stop from dropping? What classes can we offer to get the least common denominator? Basic math courses should be a huge indicator in the starting level of education coming into a $20,000 a year school. And preying on highschool graduates by going to their campuses and schilling them with now proven false statistics and promising them dreams that were incredibly unlikely to happen in reality was wrong on do many levels. If eeva and Matt were encouraging these practices then criticism of their work ethics is warranted, but I agree name calling, foul language and what not is not helpful but the conversation has to happen. It may have been a good experience for you , but that doesn't mean it wasn't good to others. The fact that Heald is days away from closing should tell u something is wrong or else they wouldn't be closing!! . You can't just defend them blindly. You have to acknowledge something bad is happening or else you are like the frog in the boiling water.

Misery loves company, and this is where misery dwells at the dregs of the cup of insecurity. People love drama, and love to bitch and complain about their miserable lives. Its sad, because you actually have to come find this site, it's not happenstance. It's planned bitchery.
