Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

5 years from now the company will not be the same. 85% of the people will have changed.

This feels oddly reminiscent of another large Minnesota electronics retailer 4 years ago. You are not on a fun journey and I imagine if you are there in 5 years from now the company will not be the same. 85% of the people will have changed, the culture will be bankrupt, the focus will be on cost savings not revenue, career growth will go the way of the dodo and don't get me started on work-life balance. Brian will leave at some point with his short term victory and financial incentive and Target will putter on. Good luck.

The people running HR at Target are running talent into the ground. They moved so many high performers to work in the Canada roles and now they are kicking them out the door. I'm already looking for an external opportunity. These are scary times bring run by idiots looking for a quick win so they can take their stock options and bail.

I think your culture will begin to treat employees like contractors. Instead of an attempt at career growth their will be a job. You will see people come stay 2 years and leave. You will see 80% of people choose to find their next promotion outside of the company. You will experience your network become larger outside the company then inside. You will see politics intensify not better decision making on who is the best. I say this because it has already happened at similar companies that made the same decisions as Brian is. You have to understand they are not trying to make Target a better place but a better payout. They don't care about you the employees when they make these decisions.

I agree that the culture will change, but don't you think it needs to? Target "development" is not beneficial in the long term. It's more "how to get talk the talk and walk the walk to your next promotion" or for those who are happy to stay in their current role (God forbid) "how to B.S. your goal plan and pretend like you care until the next month." There's so much time wasted on this meaningless crap. Not to say that development doesn't happen, it does, but there's waaaaay too many politics and too much paperwork involved.

Also, just cutting the best team survey alone would result better results by allowing leaders to not be afraid to hold crappy team members accountable and cutting the fag off their team. BTS started off well-intentioned but has turned into a joke and a waste of workload. Rant over.
