Brian told us he'll need two years to clean the house up. Even if many of us don't get the ax next time doesn't mean we don't get caught up in the subsequent waves. It's a pins and needles effect and it feels like we are holding our breath for the next time. How can you live like that? Do you buy that car that you need or take that trip or some other expense because you never know if it's next week or month or 6 months from now etc... It's a crappy place to be in, the not knowing when...

He is thinking I stay 3 years and then leave. I'm not going to be here long enough for real growth and I have stopped trying.
As someone pointed 2 years process comment, triggerred all talented TMs to move out, at the end of which the same loser KMGs PMs would stick around, not sure what is the CEO thinking.
I think he set the expectation that right sozing is an ongoing process. Another large mn retailer did the same thing. The message to the shareholders was clear we will find value at Target for you. He doesn't care about the employees this is a 2-4 year gig for him.
See, it's simple, if you are worried, just start the job hunting, find the right opportunity and move on, no point in holding your breath for 2 years. But I agree on the clarification part, if the intent was to drive the people out, the easier way to do is to let the people know like the cuts will happen in March, sept, dec etc., that message would itself is more than enough to drive the people out faster, just a generic statement of 2 years is not fair statement to make, it is really vague, that too a CEO what kindof leadership is that.
Scare tactics
.....ummm, that's the point. The "first" massive layoff was to get the fear of God in you. Then it's just a waiting game. They know you're freaked and many of you will decide not to live that way for 2 years, so you'll move on on their own (life's too short). Win-win: less staff + no expensive severance payout.
Brian and team seriously need to clarify this part. I don't think this is too much to ask. There are so many people that understood his msg in the investor call that the layoffs will span over two years. If not, we are going to loose some amazingly talented people very soon.
