...I am thinking working 6 - 8 months in a year and taking the rest of the time off (vacation). Do you know whether companies would still cover health benefits/401K etc.? I don't care if they only pay me for those 6-8 months but I would like to know more about the health coverage.

You want to work 6-8 months / year and you don't care that they only pay you for those 6-8 months / year? That's bold!
Temp work? I think it would be much cheaper for you to buy ObamaCare than purchase a company's sponsored plan if you're just working 6-8 months out of the year...Or, some 6 months oversea teaching English as a second language gig? Start your own small business, I've heard there are many taxes breaks for small business owners because Uncle Sam's tax codes encourage entrepuernship versus being a worker bee. Good luck with your search bro/sis!!!
Funny!
So, you are looking for a employer to pay for health benefits while you are not working? Unless you are super talented and is irreplaceable, good luck with that.

Seriously, my wife works for a school district and many of the jobs (non-teaching) they have may cover 401k and benefits. I would start looking there.
