Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Be glad you're gone.

Received the best review I have had in my years at HQ. Received the lowest increase while others got higher ones. I work hard, come in early, stay late.

Receive Great Team Member cards, etc.

I see people sit at their desks doing nothing or the bare minimum.

My resume is going to start flying out the door.

Former .com I am going out on a limb and at some point you threatened to quit and they countered with market. Because bortom of 11 is a joke for someone in IT. I was high as a 15 when they cut me and I found another job for +10%. My raises at Target were 2% I got top marks.

In my 3 years at Target I worked my ass off and went from the bottom of a pay grade 11 to the top of a pay grade 13. Raises can be great at Target if you prove your value.

I got a score in the mid 80's and a great review but got a less than 3% increase even though I'm in the lower end of my pay range. Not sure if that's normal?

It is not a surprised for me to see all the layoffs, There are managers who work very closely with contractors and make positions for them. One time my manager opens a position for contractor and we have to report him (contractor) though we have enough people who are capable of doing so.

If your salary is at the bottom of the range group your % may be higher; if it's on the top it may be lower

Too true Target is about visibilitynot quality. I was working about two levels above my level at Target but I was too expensive so I was cut.

I got 6 % which was the highest I have received in 3 years I had been with target, it's not that bad.

I received 5% this year so it isn't that bad all around

Coming in early and staying late is no indicator that you will receive a big increase. When I was a full time employee, there were years I worked 65 hour weeks, busted my butt and got things done and got 2% increase. Other years where I arrived at 9 / 9:30 and left at 3, taking a good noon break to go to the gym / lunch / etc, my increases were over 5%. So it is a combination of perception of doing hard work (note, this is not the same as actually working hard), socializing with the right people at the right time, and flashing out your credentials, not matter how old, to get noticed and have someone say "hmm, I've heard that X has this and that good traits". It is embarrassing, but this is the way the culture is in TGT and many other companies. The years of meritocracy are awfully gone.

I got the huge 1% also - lowest increase I have gotten in 30+ years of my career. Still nervous working here now as there are too many unknowns.

Wait till they announce what Ol' Brian (you know the guy that changed the atmosphere here to be so toxic) is going to get. The board (you remember them, the ones that rubber stamped all of Greggs moves that tanked the company) loves this hatchet approach and will richly reward him.

Well, the obscene bonuses for the execs has to come from somewhere.

Just a coincidence that layoffs occur a few weeks before reviews/increases so we are just happy to have a job. The most I ever got was when i was NE: 3% which is equal to 1% of my current salary. They always seem to have some excuse to give low increases: Cananda, the economy, blah blah.

When I worked there reviews were worthless. Great review get 2.5%. Get a bad reviee get 1%. Switch to another company add 20-25%. Hmmm wonder which is the best option. That coupled with no bonus eligibility onless you are kmg means no monetary incentive to work hard.

Just curious, what % did you get? You'd have thought I was public enemy #1 judging by mine and I got a 1% raise, whoo hoo - could hardly contain my glee. I wonder what a good score merited?

Op, let's hope you learned your lesson. The situation at Target is not unique. Hard work and long hours do not translate to promotions and big raises. In a couple of years, you will be singing the same song but just with another company.

That's because Target doesn't care about your actual work. They only care about your personality and if you fit into their mold. You have to drink the kook-aid and socialize, even if that means your work suffers from it. But those are the people who get promoted because it's just one big popularity contest. It's very, very toxic. All of the "feedback" I've gotten has more to do with how much I socialize with others than the actual quality of the work I do.

Oooooh, received Great team Cards! Now there's something to hang your hat on. As valuable as the paper they're printed on / or toilet paper.............personally I'd choose the toilet paper.

But seriously, if you are a good worker, sounds like you'd be much better off getting out of that toxic swamp. Been there where you are. Bale.
