How about Occupy Target. I'll be willing to supply the first tent. Bring your own coffee.

There are jobs at Onion shops, but they're seasonal.

There aren't any jobs at union shops. That's the connection.

I'm amazed this union stuff is even brought up. If you don't like working at Target, get a job at a union shop.

Unions had a place in the industrial age 100 yers ago. I don't recall seeing any child labor or unsafe working conditions at HQ over the last 20 years.

Most people just want to have orderly protection rules around layoffs that are really just as arbitrary. Should a company be forced to layoff an employee that is 10 times better than me just because I've been showing up to work longer? How does that make sense? Or if my job is eliminated i can bump a less senior worker that is an expert at their job?

Union leaders aren't smart enough to perform in 2015. They act like it's still 1965.

Unions are done.... You're 50+ years late my friend. I can remember my first exposure to unions while I was a college student working at a Target store on the west coast in 1989. They picketed for 3 months before we opened and the entire first year we were open. Zero impact then.... Fast forward to 2005; my neighbor was a big shot at the union for Northwest Machinists. Remember how that went? I do, I'm pretty sure that union was't able to help all those Northwest employees who went on strike that then later ALL lost their jobs or save that Minnesota company. Sad, but true.

Country first, shareholders second. That's broken. We are developing other countries, moving money overseas, bringing foreign workers, etc. Country first! Post if you agree!

I think unions still serve as an effective deterrent to corporate greed and powers, but alas, some big unions like the teachers union have abused the system where even bad teachers can't be fired, so there are good and bad attributes of unions, but as far as the present lay-offs dilemma at Target, IMHO, it's too late to unionize.

Silly. Unions have their place but I don't see how unionization would add any value to the situation.
