Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

More layoffs?

Does anyone know if another round of layoffs is planned? Following the carnage from a few weeks ago, it is becoming readily apparent to just about everyone that gross imbalances of workload amongst individuals, teams and departments is literally destroying morale. This can't go on for very much longer, or TPS and TPN will find themselves empty pretty soon.

Everyone I know who didn't get laid off is looking for another job, including me. It's a toxic, poisonous place.

Right now, From TTS i want to think that worst is over, future looks bright. But, when I look around there are too many manger roles in tts, it totally depends on what kindof technology target wants to bring in , how soon they want to bring them in and what methodology they are going to use, I keep hearing 100% agile which negates manager role in most cases, what would happen to those roles if they go crazy on agile, is the question that worries many. So, it's not over, yet. I see many are trying to get aligned to project or portfolio, my guess people who are not aligned should be worried.

I have worked as an admin in law firms, hospitals and for small companies in addition to Target. Admins cannot be lumped into one category. Just because one admin can support many partners at a firm does not mean it is realistic everywhere. An admins level of responsibility is different no two admins have exactly the same responsibility. Responsibility is based on needs of the business and leader. If we are going to support multiple leadership, than the teams will need to be more Independant abd not lean on the admin as much.

unfortunately it seems our inside h.q source of information for this site was found out . The leaders at the local levels are staying tight lipped .. I really dont think they know much as corporate doesn't want them to know much either.. The leaders i do know who will share info are worried and feel they are next.. They are already searching for jobs and we have had a considerable number leave in the last 3 months.

The admin cuts are a long time coming. For example is large law firms, one admin would support 5 partners plus associates. So, you definitely can be a lot leaner.

There will be at a minimum a couple more significant rounds, but more more likely a few more significant rounds. My wife and I have had personal experience with other companies that have gone through pretty much the same thing, and thus far everything at Target is textbook as to what we experienced and witnessed in the past. In each and every case, there was the major slaughter, followed by numerous rounds of fine-tuning, as it is called. It is sad that we will very likely be looking over our shoulders for at least another 12-18 months, and possibly longer.

What bothers me the most is that I am seeing every sign that I have seen by other companies where a new CEO basically just tries to cut their way to prosperity - a ton of cuts, with little or no successful focus on building top-line sales. So far, Brian the Butcher is following this mold perfectly. This is very short-sided thinking and in the business world is almost never successful at truly turning a company around. Eventually the areas to cut run out, moral is through the floor, sales are still down and it is then the beginning of the end. There have been some instances of CEO's using this method to turn a company around, however very, very few....

I know this has been very painful for those that have been laid off thus far, however long-term wise, they are very likely the lucky ones. If the plan goes as I have seen with numerous other organizations, severance packages will become less and less attractive and the market will become more and more saturated with former Target team members looking for employment.

I am very concerned about the department that I work in. Moral is a disaster and as a result productivity has never been worse. Again, this is just as I have seen in the past, and only leads to more and more problems for the organization. The only hope that I see, and this is not very likely, would be if Brian the Butcher changes his mentality of trying to cut our way to prosperity. Instead, he will chop like crazy, then go away with his tens or hundreds of millions.

When a consulting company comes in to do layoffs, they estimate a high attrition rate for remaining employees. These are "free" layoffs as they don't have to pay severance. The issue is when the consultants over or under estimate the attrition rate. At General Mills, they under estimated the attrition rate, so there are concerns about more layoffs. The Target layoffs are likely too new to get a read on your attrition rate.

There is no doubt another round will happen in next 90 days. If everyone you know is looking, then the next round of layoff won't be as big. I just hope you know alot ppl.

Yes they are cutting the admin group next about one third to one half will be gone next round. No timing has been given. They are going to support multiple leaders two or three per admin
