Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Here's what really went down...

1.) Brian tells his leadership team we need to make cuts and get leaner to compete

2.) EVPs and SVPs can't make a decision fast enough on who gets cut

3.) Brian acts decisively and uses Bain's recommendations, mostly based on cutting higher paid TMs (if you were on the wrong side of the median of your pay grade, you were a target)

4.). Brian's leadership team gets the point: if we don't act swiftly the next time there's a big decision, Brian will move without our input and we'll have to live with the consequences

5.). Good, but highly paid, TMs are let go... along with some average ones to throw off the scent. VPs and remaining directors are left to figure things out after the damage is done

Some of the highest paid people I know are still at Target, and some of the cheapest people were let go... salary may have been a factor, but it wasn't the factor.

Yeah take Bain's recommendations which was to cut expensive and good IT resources out of .com which is the backbone for mobile. What is your strategy now? Oh a stronger .com and mobile platform. Why would you ever take Bain's advice again. Seems like they do not know what id best for Target.

A very good summary. PURE Gold.

Layoffs were necessary. I feel sorry for all those who lost their job, but target was in a downwhirl spiral. Painfully obvious to outsiders and investors but not so for TMs. From a person who left target couple years ago, there are better opportunities out there.
