Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Dear Brian - keep cutting. There is still too much fat on this hog.

15's and 17's seemed to have got hit hard. What about the outrageously over-paid PG19 and PG21 group? This is the group that allowed the company culture to rot from the inside out...and yet there is little accountability there. Many of them are lifers with no real skills of backstabbing and ass-kissing their way to the top... not to mention some of the BIGGEST EGOs you will ever see in your professional career (this is why HR added the statement about "Humble Leaders" to our values). How did these people get to where they are? In a few cases it is genuine skill and they have earned it. In most cases I have seen it has been nepotism, self-promotion, pet projects (that add absolutely no value to the bottom line), and false reputations propped up by their network that happens to be interested in the same hobbies... lol.

I see a TON of fat in a lot of areas still. The media bitched about Target laying off 1700.... well honestly I think we could layoff 1700 more and be just fine. Still TONS of unnecessary work being carried forward, kingdom building, and politics as usual. Brian is doing awesome work, and I am hopeful about the future. But seriously... we need more layoffs and accountability.

As a former Target employee who left on my own terms, I agree with the topic creator. I was appalled in my first meeting when everyone just nodded their heads to the higher ups even though their idea pitch sucked so bad. This type of "leadership" rubs off on younger and new workers till it is viewed as the norm. I was ultimately duped. Target looked appealing from the outside, but it actually stunk from the inside. Sure, I make less money now, but I can sleep well at night.

Agree with you 100%. Most upper managers got their positions by kissing up to higher ups and back-stabbing their peers for the upper advantage. TGT's culture is sick and needs to be cured through more cuts. Layoffs suck? Heck yea, but TGT will come out stronger after all the egos and entitled ones are dealt with in a swift manner. I can't wait for those "upper managers" to get into the real world. You ain't sh*t without dedication and real skills. Kissing your way up won't work in most companies. #peace #out

Wow, I would hate to be on your teams. You guys clearly don't have a team mentality. From our Group Manager down to our non-exempts we've gotten stronger and closer as a team in the last few weeks. Sounds like you all would stab each other in the back for a lunch voucher.

While I hate the loss of jobs I have to admit I've enjoyed watching my so called "leaders" scramble to determine what work is business critical. My team has spent the past week doing nothing while the level 17s and above keep telling us "we need understand which jobs we SHOULD be doing". Meanwhile level 15s are nervously updating their LinkedIn sites and taking credit for everyone else's work.

Agree. I can name one 'humble leader' at Target, who got let go with the 1400. Most of the remaining 'leaders' are self-serving prats who spend all their time managing upward. Their job is managing their own advancement, no added value whatsoever. Get rid of these jerks and get back to work... coffee status time is over.

You may well get your wish OP. The first 1700 was just the opening salvo in a long, protracted war. Good luck to all of you at HQ. You're gonna need it.
